Last Call by A.J. Fernandez Chiquitas

Cigar Aficionado · Apr 1, 2018

A short, stout cigar with an uncut foot. It's a toasty, nutty smoke fortified with chewy, earthy notes and a savory, leathery finish.

A.J. Fernandez Last Call

Blind Man's Puff · Jul 20, 2016 · April 2016

This latest release from A.J. Fernandez is Last Call. The cigar will be the first in a collection of brands known as the Portfolio Series—experimental blends that the company is planning to release separately from the company’s regular production lines. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. “The Portfolio Series by A.J. Fernandez is a collection of unique blends that A.J. has worked on throughout the years in Nicaragua,” Starky Arias of A.J. Fernandez Cigars told Cigar Aficionado. “The blends are comprised of unique cuts of premium tobacco from A.J.’s vast inventory of fillers and will be released to the public in the future. Some lines will be limited in production and others, such as Last Call, will be full productions.” Last Call will debut in one size, called Geniales, measuring 4 1/2 inches by 48 ring gauge and wears an Ecuador Habano Rosado wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and fillers that Fernandez has grown on his own farms. The cigar first came to life as a personal blend of Fernandez’s, which he shared with guests who came to visit his Nicaraguan estate. “The cigar line was given this particular name since it literally became the final smoke of the evening for A.J. and his guests during their visits to the ‘White House’ for Monday and Thursday night NFL games…The final smoke of the night,” Arias explained. Last Call by A.J. Fernandez will started shipping to retailers in April, and is positioned as a brick-and-mortar exclusive. The cigar comes in 25-count boxes and will retail for $5 each. The cigars are rolled at Tabacalera A.J. Fernandez Cigars de Nicaragua, located in Estelí, Nicaragua.

Last Call

Halfwheel · May 6, 2016 · April 6, 2016

I certainly enjoyed smoking the Last Calls. Thanks to my utterly slow smoking pace, it’s not a particularly quick cigar for me, but that’s just fine. This is a strong, young cigar; one that will likely taste a lot different in six months. That being said, I think the blend makes sense now: a bit aggressive up front while smoothing towards the end. For those wondering between Last Call or New World, I like the former, just not for breakfast.

AJ Fernandez Last Call

Holt's Staff Reviews · Jun 17, 2021

Today I’m reviewing AJ Fernanadez Last Call in a quick and thick 4 x 52 format called the Corticas. Between myself and my cigar-reviewing compadres, we’ve covered a number of AJ Fernandez cigars previously, including Last Call Maduro, Bellas Artes, Dias de Gloria, and New World. You can find AJ’s finest in premium cigar shops everywhere nowadays. The man’s upbringing in Cuba and his meteoric rise as a cigarmaker in Nicaragua have been well documented.

AJ Fernandez Last Call

Cigar Dojo · Apr 29, 2016

Most smokers know AJ for his dark and full-throttled offerings, but AJ has been showcasing his skills with more traditional profiles as of late. And does AJ deliver? Of course. Last call is short and sweet (well, semi-sweet), offering a perfect smoke to accompany your morning coffee, lunch break, or even night-cap whiskey. This is a medium-bodied smoke with great balance—making for a nice choice when you don't want to put too much thought into it.

AJ Fernandez Last Call

Developing Palates · Jun 10, 2016 · April 2016

A technically great performing cigar with some good complexity build ups and transitions (minus the last third). But given the 100 minutes of smoking time for this "last call," I will light this one up during half time.
