Classic is the top tier of the CigarScore — roughly the top 2% of everything we score. Reaching it takes agreement, not one enthusiastic review: each critic's score is normalized onto a shared 0-10 scale, averaged across the vitolas of a line, then shrunk toward the catalog mean by how many critics weighed in, so a lone rave regresses and a well-corroborated cigar holds its ground. It is a short list on purpose.

How the CigarScore is built, what a tier means, and what it does not.
What does a CigarScore of 7.9 mean?
The published score spans roughly 5.2 to 8.3 rather than the full 0-10, because it is a consensus shrunk toward the catalog average. The tiers are therefore anchored to percentiles of that real band, not to round numbers: 7.9 is the top ~2%, 7.3 the top ~15%.
Why are there so few Classic-rated cigars?
Because the score punishes thin evidence. A cigar reviewed by one critic is pulled hard toward the catalog mean no matter how well it scored, so reaching the top tier takes several publications independently rating it highly — and most cigars have never been reviewed by several publications.
Does a high CigarScore mean it is worth the money?
