San Lotano The Bull

CigarCzars · Nov 27, 2020

I have been a big of AJ Fernandez cigars for many years, especially his San Lotano brand. There are several lines of San Lotano cigars, which include Dominicano, Requiem, and The Bull. In the past, I have smoked and enjoyed both the original San Lotano and Oval lines. This is a review of The Bull in the Toro size (6 x 54). These cigars have been around since 2014. The cigar is box pressed and made with Nicaraguan binder and filler tobaccos, and is wrapped in an Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf. Typical price is just under $10 per stick, but less per cigar if purchased by the box or 5-pack. The sample cigar began with just a moderate taste of pepper and spice, which gradually faded somewhat, giving way to earth and cocoa flavors. The body was medium-to-full, and not at all overpowering despite the cigar's name – The Bull. The smoke was smooth, balanced, and very enjoyable. After about 15 minutes, the modest pepper and spicy flavors returned, along with a subtle natural tobacco sweetness. After a few more puffs, a leather taste began to slowly emerge. By the 30-minute mark, the pepper had faded (again) and the leather taste was joined by a cedar flavor. The flavors did not change much during the remainder of the cigar, other than the cedar taste becoming more noticeable. San Lotano The Bull is an exquisitely constructed cigar, having a great draw, razor sharp burn, and holding a long ash. No relights nor touch-ups were needed during the 60 minutes that it took me to smoke the cigar down to two inches remaining. I rate it with an excellent 4.5 points on a 5-point scale. It may not be one of the latest, but it is still one of the greatest premium cigars on the market today!
