There is an oily sheen to the cover leaf of this well-made cigar, which is the color of milk chocolate. Its even draw layers the palate with rich notes of earth and candied apple accented by a brown sugar sweetness and savory leather quality. A hint of caramel gains intensity before the nutty finish.

At this years’ PCA tradeshow in July 2022, Gran Habano showed off a new cigar celebrate their 20th anniversary. The Gran Habano XX Aniversario Edicion Limitada is offered in three sizes. Each of those vitola names represents a piece of Gran Habano history: El Sueño (the dream) 5 x 52 (MSRP $14), El Desafío (the struggle) 6 x 54 (MSRP $15), and El Triunfo (the success) 6 x 60 (MSRP $16.00). This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The Gran Habano XX Aniversario Edicion Limitada blend uses a four year old Nicaraguan Corojo Rosado Shade Wrapper from the Jalapa Valley, Nicaraguan binder, and Colombian, Nicaraguan, & Peruvian fillers. The company describes it as a medium-bodied and comes packed in boxes of 20 cigars. Production is limited to 4,000 boxes of each vitola each quarter. Only 200 retailers will be allowed to carry the cigar. The Gran Habano XX Aniversario Edicion Limitada is produced at the company’s factory in Danli, Honduras, Gran Habano Honduras.

While the creamy profile of the XX Aniversario Edicion Limitada El Desafio is full of main flavors cashews and cedar, those flavors just don't change all that much for the entirety of the cigar. The result is a fairly monotonous experience that is only partially helped by a combination of white pepper and molasses sweetness that is present on the retrohale. While I enjoyed the blend for the easy smoking experience that it provides and would have no problem recommending it for someone looking for a consistent, medium-strength profile, those searching for more flavor transitions should probably look elsewhere.
