Though not our personal favorite Goldie cigar (tough to beat the original No. 2), this does rank highly in this paramount series. Few cigars come close to the level of construction and complexity offered in this beautiful cigar for the 2014 season.

There’s a small factory in Miami’s Little Havana section that’s responsible for some fantastic cigars. Called El Titan de Bronze, the operation makes its own brands, but the factory shines brightest when producing third-party cigars. One such cigar is the La Palina Goldie Laguito No. 2, an elegant panetela with a distinctive flagtail cap. Limited production and the cost of U.S. labor means that you’ll be paying a little more for this cigar. According to La Palina, the blend also incorporates some medio tiempo, which are the coveted top two leaves of a tobacco plant that rarely sprout. It all amounts to a peppery, nutty smoke finely detailed with oak, chocolate and a walnut finish.

This is one of those cigars I have been looking forward to reviewing for a redux, as I really wanted to see how that strong banana note that was so prevalent in the original review would be after six months. Well, the answer is not that strong. While still noticeable, to me, that banana flavor has now morphed into a combination of honey, sweet nuts and citrus that—while not as unique—is just as flavorful. The white pepper on the retrohale is still quite obvious for the entire smoke and that gives me cause to think that these still have quite a ways to go, aging-wise. A great cigar that is well worth the money.

The La Palina Goldie Cañonazo is a terrific size and it delivers enjoyable flavors throughout. It has depth and complexity and there is transitioning present as well. If you have loved recent Goldie releases, this will be another one to your liking.
