Cigar Snob · Jan 8, 2020
This year marks the start of a brand new chapter for Oliva Cigars. Not because of a rebrand or a wave of new blends, but because of the completion of a major expansion and reimagining of the company’s manufacturing process. Under the leadership of J. Cortes’ Fred Vandermarliere and Oliva chairman José Oliva, TABOLISA (the factory that produces the bulk of Oliva’s cigars) has grown, been made more efficient, and injected with technology that is groundbreaking in the old-school world of handmade

Oliva Serie V Maduro 2011 The Oliva Serie V Maduro is an annual limited production release that is a maduro version of the popular Oliva Serie V (which uses a Nicaraguan Habano Sun-grown wrapper) . The Serie V Maduro is done in a single vitola, and the blend has varied from year to year. The […]

1. Mocha latte | Vegetal peppers | Toasted almond 2. Black & cayenne pepper | Brownie crumb | Leather 3. Brownie | Cayenne & black pepper | Espresso If I were limited to one brand for the rest of my time, Oliva might be my pick. I also love just about all of the Bogle wine portfolio. I'm a simple fella. I also like Comedy Cigars Music . There's no accounting for taste.

I am smoking Oliva Serie V Maduro in a 6 x 50 Toro. The blend debuted in the fall of 2008 as an annual limited edition follow-up to the company’s original 95-rated Oliva Serie V. Oliva fans eagerly awaited the arrival of Serie V Maduro at their local retailers, but the cigars sold out quickly. In 2019, Serie V Maduro became part of the brand’s regular portfolio and now you can buy it year round. The Oliva Cigar Company is one of the biggest success stories of the last twenty years. Like many cigar-making families, the Olivas hail from a deep Cuban heritage.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews

To say I was surprised with this cigar would be an understatement. While I have had a general fondness for Serie V Maduros, I think the 2010 release soured me just a bit and last year's didn't wow me, for whatever reason. But the 2012 release is outstanding—and for me—the Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial is back in my rotation. It has tons of flavor without ever becoming overpowering, a good bit of spice that comes and goes at all the right intervals, and a flavor progression that is both trackable and immensely enjoyable. Needless to say, I'm finding the closest box to me and picking it up as soon as possible.

The Oliva Serie V line has been one of the most critically acclaimed cigar releases of the past several years, making our Top 25 list six times, including this appearance. (In 2009, the Oliva Serie V Liga Especial Belicoso ranked No. 5 on our list.) The Oliva Serie V Maduro Especial is a Nicaraguan smoke that originates from the Oliva family behind Oliva Cigar Co. They grow considerable amounts of tobacco as well as making quite a few cigars. The maduro is harder to find than the original Serie V, and it comes in only one size, a 6 by 54 torpedo. The maduro debuted in October 2008, and like the other Serie Vs it is an exceptional smoke. It is very rich and balanced, with coffee notes and sweet, nougat flavors that build to a pleasantly woody finish.
