Sweet and nutty from first puff to last, this thin sandy-colored panetela draws and burns beautifully. Notes of vanilla, cinnamon and almond leave a light, lemony aftertaste on the finish.

It’s been more than two years since I last smoked a Davidoff Classic No. 1 and a long time since I smoked a fresh one. I’m not sure how precisely Davidoff recreated the blend, but this absolutely seems like what a classic Davidoff blend in a lancero should taste like. Two things really stand out to me. First, the construction is impeccable. Second, the olor-like flavors are only strong if you want them to be, which is going to be good news for a segment of smokers who aren’t fond of the mustiness that used to be common in so many Davidoff blends. If you are a fan of olor, retrohale; if you aren’t, don’t. Regardless of which path you choose, the end result is a very good cigar.

For today’s review, I’m smoking a cigar I normally might not light up – if I was paying for it out of pocket, that is – because I’d have to dip into my savings. Lucky for me, smoking an expensive Davidoff Signature Toro to offer a detailed assessment for our audience of aficionados is a privilege that comes with the territory as a tenured member of the Holt’s team. The Davidoff brand has been around since 1970, but brand founder Zino Davidoff spent several decades beforehand developing a market for Cuban cigars in Europe through his family’s retail tobacco business in Geneva, Switzerland.

While there is a large segment of the smoking population that would enjoy this cigar, the Davidoff Signature 6000 is just a bit too basic for me. With the high price point, I just don't see returning to it, but if you're a fan of mellow Connecticut shades, it will likely be right in your wheelhouse.
