Gurkha released a few new lines at IPCPR 2019, one of which was the Gurkha Real. This new blend uses an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper, Dominican olor binder, and Dominican criollo 98 ligero and seco and Nicaraguan secos fillers. It is described as a medium-bodied smoke. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Gurkha Real comes in four sizes: Robusto (5 x 52) – $8, Toro (6 x 54) – $8.50, Churchill (7 x 52) – $8.95, and Magnum (6 x 60) – $8.95. They are rolled at Tabacalera Las Lavas S.R.L. (Casa Cuevas) in the Dominican Republic.

The Gurkha Real Toro was a pleasant, albeit fairly average flavor experience throughout. The last third was unbalanced and did detract somewhat. The profile is quite light, and certainly fits for a more classic Connecticut profile, so would appeal to cigar smokers who only smoke in the lighter end of the spectrum. For me, this cigar didn't do enough to differentiate from the other Connecticut offerings in the market.
