AGANORSA Leaf Aniversario Maduro Toro (2021)

The first time I reviewed this cigar 15 months ago, my main complaint was it had some issues with an almost overwhelming amount of strength that made itself known in the final third. Well, I am happy to say that some age has resulted in exactly what I was hoping: the strength is still present, but it builds more gradually than before and tops out decidedly under the full mark. In addition, while the charred meat, oak and nuttiness remain the main notes in the profile, the vanilla bean sweetness on the retrohale has been replaced by a more interesting floral sweetness that really complements the rest of the flavors nicely. The AGANORSA Leaf Aniversario Maduro Toro (2021) was a very good cigar when I first reviewed it, but it is an even better cigar now in just about every way.

The Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Maduro is a cigar that I truly love! It packs a nice combo of rich, bold flavors. Plus the atmosphere of a nice thick, flavorful smoke to the easy draw. I mean, seriously what else would you want? If you’re a fan of full-bodied cigars and looking for something with depth and character, the Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Maduro is a great choice. It’s a cigar that’s worth trying and one that you’ll likely want to keep in your humidor. I know I’ve been smoking them a lot recently and usually grab at least 2 when I find them. One for me, and one to share with my buddies.

Last year, just before the PCA trade show, Aganorsa Leaf announced that their Aniversario Maduro will return that year, but now as a regular production line and in new sizes. The blend remains the same 100% Aganorsa Leaf tobaccos covered in their proprietary Shade Grown Corojo Maduro leaf. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The new, and now regular production, vitolas are: Gran Robusto 5 x 54 box-pressed $13.50, Toro 6 ¼ x 52 boxed pressed $14.50, and Gran Toro 6 x 58 box pressed $15.50. Artwork for the boxes and bands has also been updated to emphasize the Aganorsa Leaf logo as well as differentiate it from the Aniversario Corojo line, which are the inverse of the dark and lighter colors. The Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Maduro is packaged in 10-count boxes. The Aganorsa Leaf Aniversario Maduro Gran Robusto was also the highest scoring cigar in our blind tasting event at Rocky Mountain Cigar Festival last year.
