AJ Fernandez Bellas Artes Maduro
Holt's Staff Reviews · Jan 6, 2022
We’ve reviewed more than a few AJ Fernandez cigars, and that’s because they’re super popular these days. I’m offering my humble appraisal of another blend from our official list of the best AJ Fernandez cigars you can smoke right now: Bellas Artes Maduro in a classic 6 by 54 Toro. In my earlier staff review of the original AJ Fernandez Bellas Artes, I rated the Robusto 91 points, so let’s see how the Maduro stands up to my discriminating palate.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews

AJ Fernandez continues with a similar look from recent releases over the past two years with the new Bellas Artes. What you won't be familiar with, however, is the new and unique tobaccos used. A diverse, multinational blend is brought to life by a proprietary "Rojita" wrapper leaf, made from a hybrid of three tobacco varieties. With so many new brands constantly flooding today's market, a consumer can begin to feel as though we've seen all the combinations—similar blends being recycled in one form or another. That's what's so refreshing about Bellas Artes, its new hybrid leaf feels (tastes) like much more than a gimmick—highlighting the best attributes from the complex blend beneath. This all amounts to a shockingly full flavor experience from first puff. It doesn't rely on overused decoys such as ultra sweet or ultra peppery flavors, instead offering a more balanced approach that hits the palate on all fronts.

Just prior to the 2018 IPCPR Trade Show, AJ Fernandez Cigars launched a maduro blend under its Bellas Artes line. Appropriately titled the Bellas Artes Maduro, the cigar became the second blend under the Bellas Artes line. Bellas Artes translates to “Fine Arts” in English. The Bellas Artes Maduro is highlighted by the use of […] Key flavors: Mocha (Chocolate, Coffee), Earth, Citrus, Pepper, Cedar.

While I’m always looking for high quality tobacco and a complex blend in the cigars that I smoke, there is something quite appealing and satisfying about being presented with a new flavor profile that is different from what could be considered some of the norms on the market today. That is exactly what the Bellas Artes Maduro Robusto does, and while it doesn’t always reach the same high points, it does perform quite consistently, hitting the same notes and repeating the same flavor and strength trajectory. Tack on near flawless construction and you have a cigar worth trying, particularly if you can spend some time focusing on the flavors and experiencing a combination of tobaccos not commonly found among current offerings.

Blind Man's Puff · Feb 8, 2017 · July 2016
AJ Fernandez Bellas Artes was a new line at last year’s’ IPCPR trade show. The cigar features a hybrid wrapper Abdel Fernandez has named rojita, a cross between: Connecticut 8212, corojo 99 and Havana 2000. This wrapper covers a Nicaraguan Havana 92 binder and a mixture of Brazilian, Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The Bellas Artes come in at a slightly higher price point than recent previous releases. The name Bellas Artes translates directly to Fine Arts, which is appropriate looking at the wrapper and band.

The AJ Fernandez Bellas Artes Maduro Toro was a solid smoke and a cigar that fit into some classic stereotypes. It was a Maduro that was dark, rich and strong. The cigar smoked at a full level from beginning to end and the flavors paired perfectly with the body and strength. Finished with beautiful artwork on the bands, this is a great release for AJ.
