J.C. Newman’s unique blending alone on this cigar makes it worth the try. Come for the trial, but stay for the verdict, because you will return to this cigar again and again. Even if you are not a light-bodied smoker, this cigar’s easily enjoyable flavors will bring you back. At the very least, at this price point, the Brick House Double Connecticut Robusto is worth keeping around as a dignified gift to hand out to friends and relatives. The draw and burn are consistent within each vitola, and the creamy/hazelnut flavors sing through this line. Finally, this cigar, with its rich tobaccos and high flavor profile, makes an excellent candidate for age experimentation.

Reading back through my tasting notes, the words that jump out at me are the same words that are the most pertinent to this review: slight, subtle, light, faint. While the profile does manage to include most of the Connecticut standards like peanuts, hay, creamy wood, citrus and grass, the flavors are noticeably muddled, and there was never a note that really stood head and shoulders above the rest. This lack of distinctness in the profile hurt not only the overall enjoyment, but also the balance, but ended up bringing the final score down. If you are looking for an extremely mild morning blend that is not going to come close to overwhelming your palate and at a great price you have found it, but if you want a more complex blend with more dissecting flavors, there are much better blends on the market.

Overall, I enjoyed the Brick House Double Connecticut Corona Larga. I especially enjoyed the heavier body and for the most part, standard array of Connecticut shade cigar flavors (cream, cedar, herbal tea, nuts, baking spices). All in all, pretty good effort by J.C. Newman.
