Covered in a wrapper the color of dark chocolate, this pressed robusto starts toasty and nutty, moving into sweeter territory with hints of graham cracker and buttery shortbread, but a spiciness asserts itself especially on the finish.

One of the things I really enjoy about cigars is how they can show off flavor progressions; sometimes they are subtle, other times more drastic, though having transitions isn't a mark of being particularly good or bad. In the case of the CLE 25th Anniversary TAA 2025, the cigar offers both, and the results are split. The first half of the cigar, even the first two thirds, is full of subtle transitions as the flavor establishes itself and evolves with fantastic Honduran terroir, pepper, and creaminess. It has the kind of refinement, balance and complexity that makes cigars truly special. Then the bigger transition happens going into the final third and the cigar becomes something that falls between unbalanced and rough to full-on off the rails. It's a drastic and unexpected transition, and one that doesn't help the experience. It's a shame, because after the first half of the first cigar, I began thinking just how this might do on our Top 25 list, yet after finishing that cigar, I was almost fearing what the other two might have in store for me. A fantastic cigar in the first two thirds that I would gladly smoke again and again, but one that I would also put down with plenty of left the moment it seems like that final change is underway.
