Davidoff Nicaragua Diadema

Cigar Aficionado · Jan 1, 2023

It was quite the revelatory moment in Davidoff’s history when the company went completely off script and introduced the Nicaragua line nearly 10 years ago. For decades, Davidoff was known for producing milder cigars with Dominican tobacco and light, Connecticut-seed wrappers. But then, in 2013, for the first time in its history, Davidoff launched a cigar made entirely of Nicaraguan tobacco. Made in the Dominican Republic to Davidoff’s exacting standards of construction, the cigars were given a black label—another stark change to the brand identity—and suddenly, Davidoff occupied a whole new space in the cigar world. Shortly after the brand was released, Davidoff added to the line by creating a figurado shape called the Diadema. The blend was already bold to begin with, but the tapers and curves of the Diadema seem to sharpen this already tasty assemblage of tobacco, bringing the overall smoking experience into better focus. Precise notes of red fruit, walnut and maple syrup enhance the rich core of nutmeg with more levels of complexity. It’s as sophisticated in character as it is in appearance, and consists of tobacco from Nicaragua’s major growing regions: Estelí, Condega, Jalapa and the volcanic island of Ometepe.

Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed

Blind Man's Puff · May 2, 2016 · April 2016

Back in December 2015, Davidoff Cigars unveiled the Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed, arriving in late March 2016 – the first ever box pressed cigar from Davidoff. Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed follows on the heels of the acclaimed Davidoff Nicaragua line – our top 18 Cigar of the Year 2013 – and the recently introduced Rio-inspired Brazilian blend Davidoff Escurio, which scored a 93 recently here, in its quest to offer aficionados across the globe thrilling experiences. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Charles Awad, Senior Vice President Global Marketing and Innovation said “It is Davidoff ‘s mission to open the aficionados’ world and encourage them to adventure beyond the familiar – their go to cigars and origins – and fill their time beautifully with original and superbly crafted exciting blends.” The Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed brings unchartered territories of taste, stirring the senses of those who discover them. The spice has been boosted with a fiery Esteli Ligero leaf that complements aged Jalapa, Ometepe and Condega tobaccos for a complex bitter, sweet palate stimulation. A richer, sharper Habano Nicaragua Oscuro wrapper then rolls the experience into a dynamic box pressed format to liberate enhanced flavours and aromas. Davidoff Nicaragua, 100% Nicaragua: the much acclaimed creation now takes the aficionado on a new, more extreme flavour journey. The Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed comes in two formats: Robusto: 48 RG x 5” Toro: 52 RG x 6”.

Davidoff Nicaragua Box-Pressed

Cigar Snob · Jan 5, 2023

One of only a couple of brands that have made the list three times, the 2013 Cigar of the Year returns in a beautifully box-pressed format. While the blend is the same as the robusto format, which took the top spot, this box-pressed toro feels like a deliciously amped up version of its round brother.

Davidoff Nicaragua Box Pressed

Cigar Dojo · Apr 26, 2016

Davidoff has done it again and honestly, I've been having more fun with their "dark series" than their traditional offerings (don't get me wrong, those are great too). I found it impressive that the experience delivered exactly as described. It's fun/adventurous, instantly capturing what you'd expect from a Nicaraguan (much more so than the original Davidoff Nicaragua, in my opinion), and yes, bitter-sweet. I love that they are able to take a pre-existing, relatively new brand and make it fresh and fun again. Most often you'll see brands do this by simply box-pressing the cigar or making a limited edition size of some sort; but Davidoff has done a great job showing why the cigar is different, detailing the blending alterations, while still deserving a place within their growing "Nicaragua" lineup.

Davidoff Nicaragua 10th Anniversary Limited Edition

Halfwheel · Aug 26, 2024 · July 2023

When I think back about my initial experience with the Davidoff Nicaragua 10th Anniversary Limited Edition, I go back to a line from my review: the flavor profile felt a bit tight, almost as if it was not yet ready to blossom, something I'm hoping is the case because I would really like to see this cigar shine at its brightest… While I don't know if the Davidoff Nicaragua 10th Anniversary Limited Edition is at its brightest, I do know that it is in a better place than it was a year ago. While the first puffs are mild and restrained, it only takes about an inch to show that this is a much more dynamic cigar than it was originally. The flavor bursts open and delivers a very enjoyable experience, while the construction and combustion both make it easy to enjoy this cigar. If you thought this cigar might have fell a bit short at first try, now is the time to revisit it as I think you will find it more than lives up to its billing. If you are a fan of the Davidoff Nicaragua blend and can still find these on store shelves, grab them, as I think you are in for a very enjoyable experience.

Davidoff Nicaragua

Holt's Staff Reviews · Sep 24, 2020

Today’s pick is a fine one, a former ‘#3 Cigar of the Year,’ Davidoff Nicaragua. I’m smoking it in a glistening 5.5 x 54 Toro. Davidoff is a top-shelf luxury brand. Its roots date back to Switzerland just after the turn of the 20th century, when, in 1906, Zino Davidoff was born.

DAVIDOFF NICARAGUA

David Nic’s smooth effortless draw introduces balanced spice and earth with whispers of sweetness and oak. Rumblings of graphite too, which can also be found on the retrohale. Coffee and a drop of cream mingle on the finish.David Nic. Two first names always catch my attention.Great burn, solid ash, and a hefty smoke output. I dig it.David Nic tape

Developing Palates · May 26, 2017 · April 2017

If you are a big ring gauge fan and loved the line, I would highly recommend it. I smoke smaller ring gauge cigars, but if I am in the mood for a big cigar I would grab one of these. Lots of flavors, complex and balanced.

Cigar Journal · Dec 17, 2018 · Top 25 Cigars of 2018: The Complete List (Rank #6)

Tangy cedar wood, nutty roasted aromas; the sweetness of dried fruit … this cigar pulls out all the stops. Delicate bitter tones combine on the palate with discreet sour notes and a fine caramel sweetness.
