Solid to the touch, this oily robusto draws evenly, layering the palate with a sweet-and-spicy array of red pepper-flecked honey, saffron, leather and toasted almond. Some Szechuan peppercorn precedes the black olive finish. The burn is a bit blistery.

The Davidoff Puro Dominicano is a fully Dominican puro built with tobaccos sourced from multiple growing regions throughout the Dominican Republic. The profile centers on hardwood, dark chocolate, earth, roasted nuts, leather, and controlled spice, maintaining a balanced medium-full body throughout the experience. Construction remains polished from start to finish, with the cigar leaning darker and richer than many traditional Davidoff releases while preserving the refined balance the brand is known for.

It’s safe to call Davidoff one of the quintessential cigar companies when it comes to Dominican-made cigars. Only for the past ten years has Davidoff made a footprint on Dominican puros; first with the Davidoff Puro D’Oro line and later with the Davidoff Yamasá line. Much of the challenge for Davidoff has been getting the Dominican-grown […] Key flavors: Classic Wood, Cedar, Natural Tobacco, Nougat, Black Pepper.

There is perhaps no cigar company that has the standards of Davidoff’s eponymous brand. Quite simply, these three cigars were not close to that standard. It’s possible that it’s only this vitola and only the initial production batches that are the ones that have issues, but boy, were there issues. And I suppose it’s possible that it’s just the lone box that we bought. However, I’ve smoked virtually every major Davidoff release of the last 15 years, and I cannot recall another one that had construction this poor, or even came close to it. The cigars were not bunched properly, so they had no shot of performing well and I'm pretty sure no chance of giving me any idea as to what the blend is supposed to taste like. For the moment, I’d recommend checking out the other vitolas. It appears I chose the wrong one to review.

This Davidoff Puro Dominicano Perfecto has good and not so good aspects. On one hand, I can view this as a smooth and refined smoking experience. On the other hand, I can view this as being too smooth where the flavors don't pop enough and isn't intricate enough. I overall view it the latter after smoking this singular cigar for review. But I do think it warrants going back to it a few times to make a more concrete answer.
