Davidoff Royal Release Robusto
CigarsLover Magazine · Jun 13, 2019
The Royal release line is currently only made by two formats: the Robusto and the Solomone. A peculiarity of this line lies in the wrapper leaf which was chosen to dress these cigars: it is a leaf that is not used in any other Davidoff cigar; in details, we are talking about the “Special Aromatica Dominicana”. In 2016, Davidoff released its most premium regular offering to date, the Davidoff Royal Release. The Davidoff Royal Release is a two vitola line consisting of a Robusto (5 1/2 x 55) and a Salomones (8 1/4 x 57). In positioning the Royal Release, Davidoff has said it uses the best raw materials (tobacco) combined […]

I went into this review with somewhat tempered expectations, if only due to the price tag that the Davidoff Royal Release Salomones carries. However, I found the cigar to be a flavor-bomb, with a profile full of rich, decadent and complex notes, as well as construction that was fantastic overall. Of course, the price tag will keep most people away, but if you can afford it, you won’t be disappointed in the experience.

I’ve smoked the Davidoff Royal Release Robusto and Salomones before, but it was great to smoke an unbanded Robusto from 2014. You could tell that there was age on the cigar, but even with over ten years of age, the cigar still had flavors, body and strength. The cigar showed nice transitioning throughout and delivered a solid flavor profile. The coconut shaving flavor present throughout was great, and I liked the rise in strength and body with more pepper and earth notes as the cigar progressed.
