The Davidoff Winston Churchill Late Hour was released at the 2017 IPCPR. The cigar was a follow-up to the success of the relaunch of the Winston Churchill line. The name “ Late Hour ” comes from Winston Churchill himself who was said to always be the most productive during the “ Late hour “. This time the cigar comes with barrel aging which seems to be a popular trend with the recent launch of the Camacho barrel aged lines. This particular cigar has filler that has been aged in scotch barrels. As a side note we recently took a trip to the Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic. While on the tour they cracked open a barrel of the aging filler much to my delight. The smell from the barrel will be something I personally will never forget. The Davidoff Winston Churchill The Late Hour Petit Panetela has quite a bit going for it, starting with a profile that is full of rich and dynamic main flavors, including cocoa nibs, anise and a distinct floral sweetness that pulls everything together nicely. In addition, the construction is almost as flawless as you can ask for and the profile is expertly balanced with a nice amount of spice and pepper that show up at various points throughout the hour-long smoking time. After smoking three of The Late Hour Petit Paneteleas, the fact that it is a short-filler cigar priced at $10 is the furthest thing from my mind; in fact, my only thought is how to get ahold of more of them.

Ground pepper and black tea emerge on first puffs of this dark Churchill, as does a touch of musty earth. Additional hints of cocoa powder and coffee also come through, with a finish of herbs and spices.

Today, I am reviewing Davidoff Winston Churchill Late Hour, befittingly in the Churchill size, which is 7 x 48. When it comes to luxury cigar brands, several established companies come to mind. Davidoff of Geneva, in particular, has been synonymous with luxury for decades. Davidoff cigars were birthed in Cuba during the 1960s by Zino Davidoff, whose Geneva-based tobacco shop was frequented by some of the twentieth century’s biggest dignitaries, including Vladimir Lenin and Winston Churchill, himself.
