Davidoff Yamasá Petit Churchill
Cigar Dojo · Aug 30, 2016
Davidoff’s most recent addition to their “Black Label” series of cigars is the Yamasá—a project that began with the dream of one man and was finally brought to fruition after twenty years of dogged determination. The cigar features unique and proprietary wrapper and binder leaves, which assists in creating the most complex and flavorful cigar in the Davidoff catalogue—earthy, spicy, and sweet. The Yamasá would pair equally well with a high-proof bourbon, a single-malt scotch, or a spicy, limited-edition rum. While this review concerns the Petit Churchill, I have smoked all four of the Yamasá vitolas and would give each one an equivalent review and rating—plus or minus a point or two.

This year it was announced that the Puro d'Oro would be discontinued and the new Yamasa cigar from Davidoff would be released. Is it the same or different?Read full review on The Cigar Authority

Agile Cigar Reviews are cigar assessments where we use a lightweight, shorter format. These will never take the place of our comprehensive reviews. They are only used on blends we have previously assessed. This might be a blend we are re-scoring or giving a score for the first time. It might be a blend we […] Key flavors: Chocolate, Lemon, Natural Tobacco, Oak, Cedar, Black Pepper.

I am always interested to see how a different vitola in a great blend changes the flavors and profile, and after loving the Pirámides size in the Yamasá line, I was looking forward to what the culebra brought to the table. While the culebra is not quite as complex or as flavorful as the Pirámides, it still has quite a bit going for it, including a wonderful combination of mesquite woodiness and dark cherry sweetness as well as the fantastic construction. While I have not smoked the other two blends that are included in the culebra yet, the Yamasá culebra is almost good enough to warrant purchasing the entire coffin just for it, and that says enough.

Wearing a dark and alluring wrapper, this torpedo burns evenly. Earthy, woody impressions are balanced by a toasty quality and cocoa powder sweetness.

The new Davidoff Yamasá has been 20 years in the making. It all started out with Master Blender Henke Kelner’s dream to turn the unforgiving swampland of the Yamasá region into a successful tobacco-growing field. When everyone said it couldn’t be done, Henke persisted. He held an unwavering belief in the natural bounties and potential for the land. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. On an endless pursuit to bring new tastes, experiences and pleasures, to all cigar lovers, Henke Kelner and his team of experts relentlessly nurtured and cultivated the Yamasá soil – a soil that was reluctant to change. Discovering that the soil contained too much sand and loam, they added nitrate and calcium by hand to each and every single tobacco plant. In Henke’s own words, they “continued, continued and continued” until they got it right. The new Davidoff Yamasá series combines tobaccos from Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic with a wrapper and binder from the Yamasá region. The earthiness of the Yamasá region together with the spice and sweetness of the Nicaraguan Estelí and Condega tobaccos and the Dominican Piloto and Mejorado tobaccos for this cigar.

Davidoff Yamasá cigars have been around for ten years, but remain a lesser-known blend within the famous Davidoff portfolio. I’m smoking a 6-by-52 Toro for today’s review. Yamasá cigars are named for the Yamasá region in the Dominican Republic, where select tobaccos for the blend are harvested. The area is notoriously difficult to cultivate tobacco, but the folks at Davidoff wanted to create a cigar with rare tobacco that is hard to grow. Yamasá is part of Davidoff’s Black Label collection, a series of cigars that are stronger than the company’s iconic White Label blends.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews

Davidoff has yet another winner under their belt. In a way, this is what I expect out of Davidoff with their newly badged and blended cigar. This is a must try for especially experienced smokers given its increased strength and nuances.
