Dark and girthy with a gleaming wrapper, this large cigar strikes a balance of cocoa bean flavors, woody notes and a leathery tasting finish.

The Gurkha Cellar Reserve line debuted in 2007 and was a blend made entirely from Dominican tobacco. The line was later expanded in 2011 to include the Cellar Reserve 15 Year, a line that was exclusive to brick and mortar stores. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend for the Cellar Reserve 15 Year uses a Criollo 1998 wrapper, Dominican olor binder, and 15-year old Dominican filler. It is presented in wooden boxes that resemble a maturing wine barrel.

Gurkha often gets a bad rap, and while there have been some duds , the company does makes a number of very good cigars as well for those willing to seek them out. This is the latter. It is creamy, nutty and extremely well-balanced overall, with excellent construction in both the draw and burn. Yes, the dramatic increase in strength during the final third makes things a bit rough at the end of the cigar—which affected the overall balance and brought the score down a bit—but the first two thirds make tracking down this blend an easy choice to recommend trying.

I'd be interested in revisiting a better constructed version of the Gurkha Cellar Reserve 15 Year 10th Anniversary to see if the flavor profile could maintain itself longer. Outside of revisiting it for this reason, there's not really any draw for me to come back to this cigar as I felt it was a very poor showing for the brand.

The Cellar Reserve leads with mix nuts, sweetness, earth, and spice. Snug draw.Earth and a touch of bitterness blow through the nose. Mixed nuts, sweetness, earth, and spice hold through the finish.Along with the snug draw, the smoke output is fairly minimal right now.The draw opens up a tiny bit, and the smoke begins to flow a lit
