Gurkha San Miguel Toro

Blind Man's Puff · Dec 28, 2020 · September 2020

Earlier this year, Gurkha announced another new line being produced at Aganorsa Leaf, following last year’s collaboration Trienta, or Thirtieth year celebration cigar. This new line is called San Miguel. The brand is grandfathered meaning it was originally released before 2007 and is exempt from some cigar regulations. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. San Miguel is a Nicaraguan puro and the blend uses a Nicaraguan shade grown corojo, double Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers. Each vitola has a price tag under $10. San Miguel comes in boxes of 20 and in three vitolas: Petite Corona (4 ¼ x 42), Robusto (5 x 52), Toro (6 x 54).

San Miguel by Gurkha Toro (2020)

Cigar Coop · May 2, 2021

In 2020, Gurkha announced it was re-releasing a cigar known as San Miguel. San Miguel is a grandfathered brand that was a part of the Gurkha portfolio. The San Miguel would be given a facelift, including a new blend. This was not a new strategy, as for the past few years Gurkha has been reaching […] Key flavors: Natural Tobacco, Earth, Dried Fruit, Cedar, Black Pepper.

San Miguel by Gurkha

Halfwheel · Nov 28, 2020 · September 2020

I am oftentimes amused by people who dismiss any Gurkha creations out of hand—usually because of “the marketing” or the fact that they are “just too expensive”—especially when it comes to releases like the new San Miguel, which is made up of AGANORSA tobacco and rolled at Tabacos Valle de Jalapa S.A. factory. What I found was a profile that—while not overly complex or nuanced—is full of very enjoyable flavors like creamy peanuts, toast and cedar, along with a slight marzipan sweetness and as well as more spice and pepper than I expected. Throw in the excellent construction and you end up with a very good release from Gurkha that would probably go a long way towards winning over some converts if they would give it a chance.

Gurkha San Miguel Petite Corona

Cigar Aficionado · Apr 1, 2023

A pigtailed corona with a wavy burn and firm draw. It’s dry and woody with hints of earth, minerals and spice, all of which lead to the slate-like finish.

Gurkha San Miguel Toro

Cigar Dojo · Mar 5, 2021

Being that this was rolled at Aganorsa Leaf, and I am a big fan of AGANORSA tobacco, I was really looking forward to smoking this cigar and having an enjoyable experience. Upon first light (and just past halfway) it was well on its way to being an epic experience; then things changed. The glue issue on the band was a very small yet annoying detail. What I noticed most was the drastic change in flavor profile, almost like someone flipped a switch. This was compounded by the wrapper's splitting in the final two inches. If this was only on one sample it might not be such an issue for me, but it was on all three samples I smoked, occurring at almost the same distance from the cap.

Gurkha San Miguel Toro

Developing Palates · Dec 22, 2020 · September 2020

The Gurkha San Miguel Toro was an average cigar from start to finish. It produced an AGANORSA flavor that you find with some of the lower end offerings. This wasn't a cigar composed with the best AGANORSA tobacco. It was earthy with some damp wood and pepper spice. Medium-full throughout. Nothing really to write home about and expand on.
