To celebrate three decades in business, the Gurkha Treinta Robusto was launched in 2019. For the Anniversary, Gurkha turned to Aganorsa Leaf to produce their cigars. The blend consists of an Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrapper, over a Nicarguan Corojo 99 binder and a Nicaraguan filler mix of Corojo 99 and Criollo 98. The […]

Gurkha Treinta Toro

Blind Man's Puff · Jun 29, 2020 · September 2019

The Gurkha Trienta celebrates the 30th Anniversary of Kaizad Hansotia purchasing the Gurkha brand. “ Treinta ” tranlates to Thirty in Spanish. Like all Gurkha cigars, it is made by another company; this one comes from Arganosa Leaf in Nicaragua and is a first. Earlier this month, Kaizad Hanotia left the company due to racially insensitive remarks on social media. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The first 1,000 boxes in each size were made in limited edition commemorative boxes. There will also tins of 5 in the Toro size that sell for $67.50. The rest of the boxes contain 21 sticks in the following sizes: Robusto (5×52) – $13/cigar MSRP, Toro (6×54) – $13.50/cigar MSRP, Magnum (6×60) – $13.90/cigar MSRP. Gurkha also released a limited edition anniversary humidor containing 50 special Limitada versions of the blend in a belicoso and Figurado. The humidor sells for $800 and includes 25 Treinta Limitada Belicoso cigars that measure 6 ¼ x 52 and 25 Treinta Limitada Figurado cigars. This blend uses an Ecuador Habano Rosado wrapper, Corojo 99 Aganorsa binder, and Corojo 99 and Criollo 98 from Esteli and Jalapa fillers.

Between an anniversary cigar and the Gurkha Trienta being the first time that the company has made a cigar with AGANORSA, the stage could be set for some lofty expectations. While the cigar might not be transcendent, it is certainly enjoyable, offering clean and vibrant pepper accenting consistent notes of wood, earth and nuts. Additionally, the profile isn't stagnant, evolving steadily from start to finish and aided by near-perfect construction. While the idea of recommending a Gurkha won't sit well with some readers of this review, I can say without hesitation that the Treinta it worth at least a try, as I didn't find any significant issues with it and was pleasantly surprised by how well it delivered a profile befitting of such an anniversary.

In 2019, Gurkha Cigars announced the Gurkha Treinta. It was a cigar that would commemorate 30 years of Gurkha Cigars ownership by now-former Chairman Kaizad Hansotia. You may be a little puzzled at why Gurkha is celebrating its 30th anniversary when in 2012, Gurkha Cigars celebrated its 125th anniversary with a cigar. This is because […] Key flavors: Natural Tobacco, Earth, Dried Fruit, Cedar, Black Pepper.

The Gurkha Treinta Toro had some sneaky strength as I began feeling the nicotine a bit at the halfway point. As a cigar that is celebrating a big anniversary, it didn't show as something special. That, along with the high price point, doesn't really intrigue me to revisit this one.
