Illusione cigars have been hot since their debut tasting in Cigar Insider in August 2007, when a vertical brand tasting delivered eight scores of 90 points or higher. The cigars were rich and delicious, created by Dion Giolito, a cigar retailer from Reno, Nevada, who knew what he wanted in a great cigar and wasn't afraid to push hard to get them just right.Giolito has an exacting palate and a vivid imagination. Many of his cigars have names that allude to conspiracies, or codes that reveal only part of his message. Despite the quirks, Illusiones have impressed our tasting panel again and again. This past summer Giolito released his first new Illusione brand in nearly three years, Fume d'Amour, which translates to "smoke of love." Armed with tobacco from a particularly strong crop year, Giolito had cigars made without ligero (the strongest component of tobacco) and focused on lower, milder primings. The result is a truly delicious cigar with balance and style, brimming with a rich, nutty cashew taste, hints of nougat sweetness and touches of baking spice. This marks the second time an Illusione cigar has earned the No. 3 spot on Cigar Aficionado's Top 25 list. This classic smoke is a memorable cigar.

The cry for lanceros is one heard often in the cigar world, one that is occasionally heard and with varying results when it comes to the final product. In the case of Illusione’s Fume D’Amour, the question of whether or not a lancero works in this blend is an unquestionable yes, and while I’d need to do a vertical tasting to see just how it compares to the other sizes, it would almost certainly be the first one I reach for, time allowing. The flavors are strong without being overpowering, pepper is used with incredible discretion, the interplay between aroma and flavor is fantastic, and the construction—minus the flaky ash—is as good as any. If there was ever a no-doubter of a cigar, this could very well be it.

Honey roasted cashews out of the gate, As it settles a couple-puffs in, the roasted component dials back and the sweet nuttiness does paste. Cream. White pepper and cardamom and paprika. <<< Those are the overtones. Undertones are high-up & white chocolate, followed by a blonde-roasted cream and sugar'd dose of joe. Honey returns (& with it a car-a-mel note is intro'd) at nigh mid-point, in an orange blossom fashion. Underbelly is sunlit earth with a graham cracker/pale grain attachment. Combust

The Illusione Fume D'Amour Clementes (6½ x 48) was ranked the Number 3 cigar in world for 2014 byCigar Aficionado. In addition, the Juniperos vitola (7½ x 40) was rated 91 in the November/December 2019 issue of the magazine. These cigars are Nicaraguan puros and do not contain any ligero tobacco. This review covers the Clementes cigar, which is priced just under $11 per single, and as low as $9.50 (on average) if purchased in a 5-pack. The Fume D'Amour (Smoke of Love) Clementes cigar began with a very pleasant and naturally sweet tobacco flavor, with a nice nutty taste joining in after the first few puffs. The cigar was medium bodied, but moved up near the top of that range after 20 minutes or so, when the cigar also became more mellow and less sweet. After another 20 minutes at around the 40-minute mark, the cigar's flavors began to fade and become less enjoyable. After another 20 minutes, the taste was becoming bland, as the flavor gradually deteriorated even further during the final 20 minutes. It took me 80 minutes to smoke the Fume D'Amour Clementes cigar down to 2¾ inches remaining, when the cigar went out by itself (for the third time). The cigar had a very good draw and even burn, but barely held a medium-to-long ash, which dropped off by itself. Although the cigar did not require any touch-up lights, a couple of relights were needed at about the 40 and 60-minute marks.Read full review on CigarCzars
