Illusione Singulare 2012 Vimana (Maduro) The Illusione Singulare 2011 and 2012 are long-awaited additions to the Illusione Singulare series. The Singulare series was introduced two years ago. It uses the limited release concept of one size and one blend. It is a true limited concept because once the cigars are gone, they are gone. Illusione […]

If every cigar I reviewed was this good, my job would be a lot more enjoyable. The Illusione Singularé 2014 Anunnaki has aged very well; quite simply, it’s aged like many Illusiones before it has. Nicaraguan cigars aren’t known for getting substantially better with my time, but in this case it absolutely has. Furthermore, it’s done so without any noticeable reduction in flavor intensity, body or strength.

The Illusione Singularé, along with most other Illusione brands , underwent a branding overhaul in 2023. But unlike most of the rebranded Illusiones, the Singularé Origen was also re-blended and shifted from a limited, annual “vintaged” blend to regular production. The corona gorda scored a 92 in the May/June 2023 issue.

Sweet spices | Suede | Cocoa butter Rich in a mellow fashion, well-rounded to overly cushy. Firm-curved corners & backbone via white peppercorn kicker. Black pepper finely-ground attachment. Spices are sweet & calming. A white clove & ginger. Slight paprika on the back-end. Cocoa butter steered sweetness which evolves to hold distinct & independent milk chocolate. Savory via suede earthiness, sweetly. Malty & musky. Undertones feature a dried apricot & papaya. Bing cherry. Golden hay. An apple t

Cloaked in a richly-hued wrapper, this cigar draws and burns evenly. Nutty, botanical first puffs become more complex with notes of star anise, toasted coconut and pencil shavings. The nuttiness continues on to the finish.

Illusione heads in a fresh direction with their long-running Singularé series, settling on a singular blend that will be offered on a regular basis with the Singularé Origen cigar. In the robusto form, the cigar is tame yet balanced, lighting up without the usual nostril-stinging spice of many Nicaraguans. Instead, flavors primarily evolve from tart cream to rich butter to an interesting doughiness. The smoke seems to hit the palate from all sides, being nicely balanced, especially through the first half. It did seem to be missing something, be it sweetness, spice, or an "it factor" component to keep you on your toes. The first half was a bit more complex than the second, though the aforementioned cream/butter/dough connection provided a nice bridge between the beginning and end.

I believe a little more time will do the Illusione Singularé 2018 Turin wonders even though it's still pretty good as it is now. I think revisiting it in 6 months will provide quite a treat. This is a cigar I will definitely return to and could easily recommend it to those that enjoy the profile I described. It's a blend well deserving of the Singulare name.
