La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro Toro

Blind Man's Puff · Aug 16, 2023 · April 2023

Earlier this year, Forged Cigar Company quietly released a new line under the La Gloria Cubana brand: La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro. The name comes from the fact that the binder is a hybrid between Corojo and the fabled Pelo de Oro. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The Corojo de Oro hybrid was made by crossing two Cuban-seed tobaccos, Corojo 97-98 and Pelo de Oro. The leaf was grown and processed in the Mao region of the Dominican Republic. The new varietal was not up to wrapper quality standards, so the company decided to use it as the binder in the blend. The La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro is a sequel of sorts to another La Gloria Cubana project form the prior year which was the La Gloria Cubana Criollo de Oro. In that blend the featured tobacco was a cross between Criollo ’98 leaf and Pelo de Oro to create a hybrid varietal known as Criollo de Oro. In that case, the Criollo de Oro leaf was used as the wrapper. That cigar scored an 89 in our blind testing. The rest of the blend uses an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and Brazilian Mata Fina, Dominican Piloto Cubano, and Nicaraguan Ometepe fillers. The cigar comes in just one vitola, a 6 x 50 Toro. The cigars are rolled at the El Credito Cigar Factory, LGC’s smaller factory within General Cigar Dominicana in Santiago, Dominican Republic. La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro come in boxes of 20 and each cigar has an MSRP of $10.49. Production is limited but exact numbers were not given in a press release.

Annotating a Note | La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro

BRAND: La Gloria Cubana BLEND: Corojo de Oro WRAPPER: Ecuadorian Habano BINDER: Corojo de Oro (proprietary hybrid) FILLER: Brazilian, Dominican, Nicaraguan FORMAT: Toro (650) ORIGIN: Dominican Republic INTENSITY: Medium NOTE: Salted caramel Our note is immediately there between some cracked white pepper and dry suede. All around all is clay earthiness. Saltier than mere salted caramel at first, the sodium dials back when the rest settles in place. A far away Mexican hot chocolate not at all near

La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro Toro

Cigar Aficionado · Oct 1, 2024

This toro is topped with a cap that’s notably darker than the wrapper. Impressions of earth and coffee mingle with notes of dark toast, cinnamon and clove. The finish leaves a slightly bitter, vermouth-like aftertaste.

La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro Toro

CigarCzars · May 13, 2023

La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro is a limited-edition cigar made in the Dominican Republic with tobaccos from four countries. The blend features a proprietary Dominican-grown hybrid Cuban-seed binder, Ecuadorian Habano wrapper, and filler tobaccos from Brazil, Dominican Republic, and Nicaragua. This cigar was released in March 2023, and is available in one Toro size (6 x 50) priced at $10.49 per stick. For more information, scroll down to read thepress release. The sample La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro Toro cigar began with modest peppery taste, which was shorty joined by a subtle sweetness within the first five minutes. The smoke was medium-bodied, smooth, and very enjoyable. By the half-way point, a moderate leather taste joined the mix, and this combination of perfectly balanced flavors lasted until the end of the smoking session. It took me 80 minutes to smoke the La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro Toro down to 1¾ inches remaining. During that time, the cigar had a very good draw, held a medium-to-long ash, and maintained an even burn until one minor touch-up was needed after 50 minutes. I enjoyed the entire 80 minutes of smoking time, and can easily rate the La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro Toro cigar with a superior 4.25 points on a 5-point scale. At $10.49 per cigar, it is a very good value for a small batch release that is made with top quality premium tobaccos. La Gloria Cubana Criollo de Oro Toro Cigar La Gloria Cubana presents “Corojo de Oro”, a new limited-edition release named after a proprietary hybrid varietal of tobacco. The special leaf was developed in “innovation” fields in Mao, a picturesque valley in Northwestern Dominican Republic where tobaccos for small batch releases are bred. To create the new varietal called Corojo de Oro, agronomists crossed two Cuban seed tobaccos, the versatile Corojo 97-98 with the rare Cuban seed Pelo de Oro. While of wrapper quality, the hybrid leaf was selected as a binder to bring an added dimension to the cigar's four-country blend. To achieve the finely balanced, medium-bodied profile, the artisans of La Gloria Cubana have punctuated the proprietary binder with a rich Ecuadorian Habano wrapper and a blend of filler tobaccos including Brazilian Mata Fina, Dominican Piloto Cubano and Nicaraguan Ometepe. The result is an indulgent smoke with layered notes of earth, cedar, citrus and white pepper. Steve Abbot director of marketing for La Gloria Cubana said, “Corojo de Oro was created in the La Gloria Cubana tradition of blending proprietary and time-honored tobaccos. With this special release, our artisans have delivered a cigar with a distinctive taste profile that cannot be replicated in the market.” Handcrafted at the El Credito Cigar Factory in Santiago, D.R. La Gloria Cubana Corojo de Oro will ship to retailers on March 1. Corojo de Oro features an art deco-inspired band that highlights the brand's iconic Lady La Gloria marque and carries the imagery to its elegant, wood-toned box. My corncob nubber assists with a snug draw, and we’re moving. Spice, sweetness, and earth work in harmony. Not Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, just harmony. They were like a two-hit wonder, right? “Tha Crossroads” and “1st of tha Month” if memory serves me correctly.Nice smoke output.Earth and leather are the main players
