Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Sun Grown Epicure
Blind Man's Puff · Feb 5, 2021 · July 2020
Last year, Perdomo gave their 10th Anniversary line a fresh look, new blends, and new sizes. Prior to 2020, the Maduro and Sun Grown blends were under the Champagne line, now those are simply under the 10th Anniversary brand, with the core Champaign (Connecticut wrapper) staying. The two lines are now simply known as Reserve 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Sun Grown, and Reserve 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Maduro. The 10th Anniversary line has been around since 2004 was actually more than ten years after forming the company in 1992. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Sun Grown has been reblended and uses a six-year-old Cuban-Seed Sun Grown Nicaraguan wrapper that has also spend 10 months spent aging in bourbon barrels. The binder and filler also have six years of age but not barrel-aging. The line also has some new sizes and is entirely box-pressed including: Figurado (4 3/4 x 56) – $7.25, Robusto (5 x 54) – $8.25, Epicure (6 x 54) – $8.75, Churchill (7 x 54) – $9.25, Torpedo (7 x 54) – $9.50, Super Toro (6 x 60) – $9.75.

For roughly the past 20 years, Nick Perdomo has masterfully straddled the barrier of value and allure with Perdomo Cigars. He owns his own factory in Estelí, Nicaragua, and has done a heck of a job building his cigar portfolio into a popular brand. Not only does Nick maintain impeccable standards for the construction and quality of his cigars, but he keeps the prices low without compromising taste. Additionally, his efforts are enhanced by the fact that he maintains an exceptional crew of dedicated employees he adores.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews

In a somewhat slow year for cigar releases, Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Box-Pressed Maduro came as a godsend to the flavor-craved enthusiast. The cigar replaces the former Champagne Noir blend, simultaneously bringing with it a more premium tobacco blend while retaining the original price point. In the Epicure (toro) format, the cigar smokes like everything a classic maduro should be. There's plenty of spice to start, followed by a pleasing amount of bitterness that doesn't veer into harsh territory. The flavor and body are medium out of the gate and rise closer to full not long after, offering punchy flavors that sink into the palate and only concentrate as the embers burn down to the nub.

Well rolled with a very precise point, this tan torpedo imparts a creamy smoke that's floral and oaky with a bit of graham cracker and a spicy note of ground red pepper in the background.

I've long maintained that Perdomo's catalog of cigars offers about as many go-to choices as any, with balanced profiles and good flavors at generally very reasonable prices. The Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Box Pressed Maduro Robusto is no exception to that thought; the cigar delivers a hearty, medium-full profile that dabbles in chocolate sweetness while never straying too far from an earthy core, sprinkling in clean and punchy black pepper throughout. As noted above, the final third brings on a fairly intense level of robustness and mouth-drying flavor, which is fine but had me craving the flavors from the first half that much more. While I might rearrange the profile a bit to bring in that sweetness, there was never a moment where I didn't find myself enjoying what the cigar had to offer, and it left me with a clean finish on my palate and thankfully no nicotine buzz. Another solid entry into the Perdomo portfolio that is worth trying if you're up for something with some bigger flavors.

Widely recognized as the world's first bourbon barrel-aged cigar, this smoke rocketed Perdomo to the top. But after 20+ years, is the blend still on point?

The Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne Epicure had a nice start as the simple flavor combination was well delivered. The profile dropped a level in the second third as the earth built up and remained at that level for the remainder of the cigar. This is a decent Connecticut shade offering that provides a heavier strength profile from traditional offerings. It's not a cigar I'd come back to with real frequency, but it's nice to revisit from time to time.
