Today, I’m reviewing the elegant and easygoing profile of Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut in a 7 x 56 Churchill. I’ve known the brand’s founder, Nick Perdomo Jr., for close to twenty years. He’s a guy who’s a pleasure to talk to. When he comes to Holt’s for our annual Perdomo events, the customers love him. The entire Perdomo crew is a genuine bunch. When you meet the guys who work for Nick, including his son, Nick Perdomo III, and his right-hand man, Arthur Kemper, you can’t help but want to smoke their cigars. They make great cigars too.

Perdomo Cigars exhibited another addition to its Perdomo twentieth Anniversary line at the 2016 IPCPR Trade Show, the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut. Perdomo created the 20th Anniversary in 2012 to recognize 20 years in the cigar business. At first, line was only in a Maduro and a Sun Grown Habano offering. The additionof the new Connecticut mix finishes the tio. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The Perdomo twentieth Anniversary Connecticut utilizes an Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler. The Connecticut comes in the same sizes as the 20th Anniversary Sun Grown and Maduro, Churchill (7 x 56), Corona Gorda (6 1/2 x 48), Epicure (6 x 56), Gordo (6 x 60), Pyramid (6 1/2 x 60), Robusto (5 x 50), and Toro (6 1/2 x 54).

Despite its girth, this fat, tan cigar burns and draws evenly, offering notes of vanilla, star anise and citrus. A touch of honey emerges before the herbal finish.

Releasing a cigar four years after the event it celebrates seems a bit odd, but in the case of the Perdomo 20th Anniversary Connecticut, I'm inclined to say that better late than never is certainly applicable. Each of the three cigars was remarkably consistent, showing the same general strength, progression of flavor and high level of construction. I certainly don't think this 60 ring gauge vitola affords the blend the best format by which to shine, but allows it plenty of room to show what it has to offer.
