There’s an oily sheen to the dark, toothy wrapper of this toro, which leans sweet with notes of chocolate, raisin and caramel. Elements of earth and oak lead to the long, rich finish, though the burn and draw are inconsistent.

Recently, our first shipment of Perdomo Legacy cigars arrived, and I’m excited to fire up the Connecticut blend in a 7-by-54 Churchill. The Legacy series marks a new chapter for a brand that Nick Perdomo humbly founded out of his home in the early 1990s, growing it into a vertically integrated network of farms and factories and one of Nicaragua’s top cigar-making operations. Nick’s son, Nicholas Perdomo III, blended the Legacy edition as a tribute to his father, expressing the pair’s commitment to their company’s longevity.

While the third Perdomo Legacy Connecticut Epicure was a bit of a letdown, even the worst example was still a good cigar. Especially for the first two thirds, the first two cigars were excellent, and the collective experience of the trio was great. If you choose to smoke these casually—perhaps surrounded by friends and with a drink in your hand—you're in for a flavorful cigar that is very easy to smoke. And if you go the route that I did—isolating yourself and not pairing the cigar with even a glass of water—you will find those flavors are bold, detailed and very complementary of one another. It’s one of the best new cigars I’ve reviewed this year, just budget a bit more time to finish the cigar than you might expect.

A Perdomo that I can truly get behind. Success! This Perdomo Legacy Connecticut Epicure goes toe to toe with some of my favorite shade offerings such as Espinosa Crema, Matilde, etc. It's not the same as those profiles, but it works well with how well the profile shows fullness in flavors and transitions. It's about time I found a winner in this brand. Let's keep this going.
