Nick Perdomo produces close to thirty unique blends in his popular Perdomo portfolio, and he’s been at it for thirty years now. Today I’m smoking a Perdomo Double Aged Vintage Maduro in a chunky 6-by-56 Epicure to give my full-fledged impression of its taste and performance. Previously, we’ve reviewed the Double Aged Vintage Sun Grown and Double Aged Vintage Connecticut cigars from Perdomo. It’s only fitting we follow up with Nick’s third wrapper option, the Maduro, in this well-known series.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews

Back in 2014, Perdomo Cigars launched a unique project known as the Perdomo Double Aged 12-Year Vintage line. This is a project that incorporates 12-year-old tobaccos into the blend. The story of this cigar isn’t simply that it uses 12-year-old tobaccos, but the proprietary process for aging them. This process involves aging some of Perdomo’s […] Key flavors: Cocoa, Cream, Coffee, Earth, Natural Tobacco, Fruit, Cedar, Pepper.

I came into this cigar almost blind, other than what we had written for the site before, I had barely heard of the line. I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised by what I experienced. The blend features both some nice sweetness along with some interesting—and at times, quite significant—pepper to the retrohale that keeps appearing throughout the entire smoke. Although the profile is not overly complex, the flavors that are present are distinct, and the construction was quite good for all three samples. These are not powerhouses by any means, but overall they are very good cigars, and are well worth tracking down if you can find them.

The Perdomo Double Aged 12-Year Vintage Connecticut Epicure had an average flavor profile throughout, with the toasted oak being the main driver. The supporting notes didn't elevate the profile as they contributed to a dryness that kept the enjoyment level down. Unfortunately, I didn't really detect any barrel aging influence, other than the unique toasted oak profile early on. Also, the dryness and construction paper that can be an attribute of Connecticut shade offerings played too large of a role. Not a cigar I'd see myself coming back to.
