Fonseca TAA Signature Series by Manuel Quesada The Fonseca TAA Signature Series by Manuel Quesada was a cigar released in 2008 exclusive to Tobacconists Association of America (TAA) retailers. When renowned blender Manuel "Manolo" Quesada set out to blend his ideal smoking experience to commemorate his 70th birthday, he incorporated some of the family's most prized, Dominican tobaccos; offering enthusiasts a peek into the psyche of his highly-respected palate. A cigar of this nature is often released in only one size to showcase the optimum smoking experience for a given blend. MQ 70, however, introduces two variants (both contained within the toro dimensions); the primary difference of the two being the belicoso-style cap of the cigar used for review. Manuel Quesada 70th Belicoso showcases a supremely complex experience (the most complex 2017 release thus far, in my opinion) from start to finish. This is the cigar's pièce de résistance and theoretically lends itself to high aging potential. My biggest criticisms come in the way of burn and construction issues; requiring multiple touchups (most in the first-third), burning a tad quickly, having a slightly firm draw, less-than-ideal smoke output, and harsh flavors (until receiving a quick touchup). These construction issues only temporarily affected the experience throughout and were never too bothersome to distract from the harmonious flavor profile. Here's to hoping these were only obstacles exclusive to my smoking samples.

A figurado with an oily wrapper. Its lush draw delivers a sweet-and-savory combination of leather, chocolate-covered almonds, and a hint of red wine acidity.

Last year, just before IPCPR, Ventura Cigar Company announced a new collaboration between Michael Giannini, Benjamin “Benji” Menendez, and Manuel “Manolo” Quesada. This new collaboration was to be called Cuban Cigar Factory, and will be consisted of two distinct blends: The Benji Menendez for Cuban Cigar Factory and The Manolo Quesada for Cuban Cigar Factory. Today, we will be looking at the The Manolo Quesada for Cuban Cigar Factory. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The Quesada family has been in tobacco for four generations. Manolo Quesada started working at his father’s company before Castro came to power. After Castro, he was forced to leave and ended up in Dominican Republic, where he eventually started the MATASA factory today known at Quesada Cigars. The Manolo Quesada for Cuban Cigar Factory comes in three sizes: Robusto: 5″x50, $12.99 each or $259.98 for a box of 20, Toro: 6″x50, $13.99 each or $279.98 for a box of 20, Belicoso: 6.25″x52, $14.49 each, or $289.98 for a box of 20. The blend uses an Habano Ecuador wrapper, Ecuadorian binder, and Dominican fillers. It is rolled at the MATASA factory in the Dominican Republic, in collaboration with Ventura Cigar Company. They were shown off at IPCPR 2019 and shipped late summer.

I noted in my original review that it seemed like the Manolo Quesada 75th Anniversary Limited Edition seemed like a cigar that had some pretty decent aging potential, and it seems like that was a pretty decent prognostication. There are no longer any rough spots needing to be smoothed out; the very final inch or so is the only one that feels off due to the addition of some heat. While I thought the cigar originally shone brightest in its transitions, now the individual sections seem to be the highlights, an interesting change that has me thinking there is likely even more to come from this cigar, as once everything gets dialed in and working together as best as they can, the result could be very impressive and well worth the wait.

Orange Creamsicle | Cedar | Graham cracker Yo dawg, I heard you like collabs. So I put a collab in your collab, so you can collab while you collab. Musty-bright. Like foglights at dusk on a country road. Focused, fuzzily. Buttery cedar planks brace & back orange creamsicle and graham cracker crust primaries. That orange creamsicle is less a kiddie treat, more a cocktail--as a tick of vanilla vodka boozes up the clingy-not-cloying finish. The first 1/2 is quite good, perhaps a tick drying. Suede,

For the Cuban Cigar Factory Manolo Quesada Robusto, the cardboard started subdued but kept building to the point where it sort of ruined the other flavors. That really is too bad because there are some great flavors to the cigar. I'll put this on the back burner to revisit down the road.
