There are a lot of "firsts" for the Avo Syncro Nicaragua brand. It's the first regular-production Avo to be box pressed. It's the first regular-production box-pressed cigar to ever come out of Davidoff of Geneva's factory in the Dominican Republic. And, as is indicated in the name, it's also the first Avo to use Nicaraguan tobacco. The name is also meant to suggest synchronization between the different tobaccos in the blend, which include Nicaraguan tobacco from Ometepe and Dominican tobacco types such as Piloto Cubano, San Vicente and a hybrid tobacco spawn from Piloto and Olor. The Toro's blocky dimensions and smart blending allow each tobacco to express itself, showing notes of leather, minerals and a dried apricot sweetness.

AVO Syncro Nicaragua does exactly as advertised, "syncing" Davidoff's skill in blending Dominican tobaccos with enough Nicaraguan edge to keep you interested throughout. After smoking the cigar, I am honestly shocked of its affordable price point. There are loads of complexities and refined flavors throughout. This is definitely not a Nicaraguan cigar in character, which might be confusing, considering its name. But when you understand the concept and what they're going after, I think it's easy to appreciate what AVO has accomplished with their first commitment to the power of Nicaraguan tobacco.

Inspired by the cosmopolitan lifestyle of cigar legend Avo Uvezian, AVO Cigars has ventured beyond its Dominican roots, capturing exotic notes from vibrant cultures around the world to create an exciting collection of blends called Syncro. Now comes a new cigar called AVO Syncro Nicaragua. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. On the island of Ometepe, in the rich soil that lies beneath one of Nicaragua ‘s most active volcanoes, a uniquely sweet and spicy tobacco is grown. Known for its wild character and peppery notes, AVO Cigars carefully blends this Nicaraguan tobacco with only the finest Dominican leaves, famous for their earthy flavours and soft, creamy notes. “Experience the thrill of surprising notes from diverse cultures! Agile Cigar Reviews replace what we termed “Assessment Updates”. The concept is the same, but the name is different. Agile Cigar Reviews use a lightweight, shorter format. These will never take the place of our comprehensive reviews. They are only used on blends we have previously assessed. This might be a blend we are re-scoring […]

The AVO Syncro Nicaragua is one smooth blend. While the profile is not as complex as I was hoping for—at least in the largest vitola—the flavors were crisp, easily identifiable and nicely balanced. The construction was excellent on all counts, and I enjoyed it enough that there were times I forgot I was smoking a 6 x 60 ring gauge. While it is not as good as the Davidoff Nicaragua Diadema for me, the AVO Syncro Nicaragua Special Toro is an extremely enjoyable cigar, and one that I can easily recommend for people looking for a smooth, easy to smoke option.
