A thick cigar with an even cap and well-constructed head. Impressions of wood and minerals are balanced by sweeter touches of molasses, nutmeg and brown sugar. The cedary finish is tangy. It draws well, but tasters experienced inconsistency on the burn.

Chocolate | Walnut shells | Spice array Weighty enough but a bit untethered, three-quarters of a bit not clingy. Balanced but set in a slim horizon. Quite chocolatey in an unsweetened cocoa powder manner. Consistent. Nutshells form a nice sturdy structure. Spices don't have much of that structure and aren't, therefore, delineated... a good savory mix though. Not very nuanced and of moderate complexity. Black pepper. Experimentation with different tobaccos is one of the things that I love about the cigar industry, so when I heard that this blend included a seed from Paraguay, I was instantly intrigued. After smoking three of the Rocky Patel Dark Star Short Stars, I found a blend that is dominated by generic nuttiness and powdery cocoa nibs, with the former note overtaking any other flavor during the second third. That said, I found very little sweetness in the blend, which might have really increased how nuanced the profile could be. In the end, I am glad to have tried the Rocky Patel Dark Star Short Star and appreciate the effort that went into blending it, but each time I put the nub down, I was left wanting more out of the cigar.

Hey, this Honduran Corojo is purdy good. It has that nice pepper spice through the nostrils, but the accompanying depth of stone fruit and mixed nuts wraps it up very well. I wasn't a big fan of the stale cedar in general, but for the majority of the cigar it was tampered quite well. No doubt will be happy to smoke this Rocky Patel Dark Star Robusto again.
