Rocky Patel's Private Cellar cigar was introduced in 2012, and is supposedly one of Rocky's personal favorites. The cigar is made with a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper and a blend of Nicaraguan filler (and binder) tobaccos. Private Cellar is available as a Robusto, Torpedo and in the Toro size selected for this review, which measures 6½ inches in length with a ring gauge of 52. Price is just under $160 for a box of 20 cigars, or $8.75 for a single. I found the Rocky Patel Private Cellar Toro to be medium bodied, but just shy of the lower end of the medium-to-full range. Not overpowering by any means, but well balanced with flavors that were not too subtle nor overly exaggerated. The pleasant and smooth tastes of some sweet spice combined with earth and a bit of pepper kept me interested enough to keep puffing a little more often than usual. The cigar burned perfectly and did not need any touch-ups nor relights during the 75 minutes that it took me to smoke it down to two inches remaining. The cigar had a great draw and held a nice long ash. I rate the Rocky Patel Private Cellar with a superior 4.25 points on a 5-point scale, and recommend it to the vast majority of mainstream cigar smokers who enjoy a balanced and well made smoke that is not a power bomb, overly complex, nor saturated with pepper and spice.
