Given that I don't have any comparison to what the original The Edge tasted like, I can't speak on how well this tastes to that. What I can say is that it's another solid new cigar from Rocky Patel and one that is a bit unique thanks to the tartness. I am curious to see how this tastes in a few months and in particular about 9-10 months, to see if the flavors have separated from one another and gotten to open up a bit. I suspect the proverbial decanting would be quite benefital to this blend, at the moment, everything is just a tad bit too compact for the cigar's own good. The trick will be balancing the opening up of those flavors without losing any of the fullness that the cigar offers.

I am reviewing one Rocky Patel’s most popular cigars today, The Edge Corojo, in a 5.5 x 50 Robusto. Over the last 25 years, Rocky Patel has built his brand into one of the biggest cigar companies in the industry. From 1995 to 2003, Rocky operated Indian Tabac Cigars before introducing cigars with his name on the label. The Edge is one of Rocky’s earliest hits and is a bestseller in his portfolio today. It seems crazy now that The Edge was originally only available in 100-count boxes. The rough and rugged box would occupy a wide chunk of space on retail shelves.

White pepper | Leather | Dirt Bitey-sharp w.pepper. Finely-ground + herbaceous-minty lilt. Domineering, that. Underneath it, sneaks out leathery-earthiness, fleshy nuttiness. Milk chocolate keeps trying, trying. Combustion-construction leaves something to be desired. Becomes more&more imbalanced via tingly-nigh-abrasive progression. Lemony-linear, mostly, thin-shallow repetitive depths. No complexities. Wayward burn-line, flaky ash-stack. Smokes a bit like SCREAMING into a pillow.

The Rocky Patel The Edge Corojo Toro started pretty average, focused around the toasted cedar and earth. It increased in enjoyment in the second third as the black pepper returned, rounding out the profile a bit more. It took a step back in the final third as the wood bitterness increased and the pepper mellowed. This is a serviceable lower priced offering. While I wouldn't see myself really coming back to it with any frequency, for those that like a cedar and earth flavor combination and prefer lower cost offerings, this might fit the bill.
