Vitola: Mama (Lancero) 7” x 38 ring gauge MSRP $12.50 Purchased at Burns Tobacconist Background Familiar with the story of Goldilocks and the three bears? Well forget it…this isn’t about that story. Although there are 3 vitolas in the El Oso line by Warped Cigars…so I guess that does indicate 3 bears…and they are named […]

El Oso literally translates to “the bear.” It comes to us from Warped Cigars, a brand that originally hit the scene back in 2008 before disappearing from the radar. The year 2014 marked their epic comeback, and they did it with an array of tasty handmades that prove this brand is back with a vengeance. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. This blend is a mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan filler leaves and an Ecuadorian Habano Oscuro wrapper. Extremely limited in production, they are rolled at the esteemed El Titan de Bronze factory in the historic neighborhood of little havana in miami. Rolled by true category 9 cigar rollers from havana, cuba, each el oso utilizes true Cuban technique, such as entubado bunching and the classic Cuban triple cap.

A fantastic compliment to the Warped lineup! Warped seems to offer new and exciting products for the cigar industry at every turn. A unique wrapper for an individual vitola - that's the kind of thinking you just don't see every day! These cigars can be somewhat difficult to locate as they are in limited production. But, trust me, take the time; put forth the effort to find this cigar. Though the price point is on the expensive side ($12-$16), I recommend buying as many as you can (if you can find them). It’s that damn good!

While I have never smoked any of Warped Cigars previous releases, I was interested to try the EL OSO, due in large part by the fact that it is rolled at El Titan de Bronze. What I found after smoking three of the belicoso vitolas was an enjoyable cigar that met my expectations, but with a profile that never really took off flavor-wise. The notes that are present are enjoyable, and the excellent construction makes the physical act of smoking the cigar a wonderful experience in that regard, but in the end, I could not help but feel that there was something missing in the profile. Having said that, I enjoyed the EL OSO, and can easily recommend giving them a try when they are released.

The Warped El Oso Blanco Papa was an average cigar that had a decent start, but terrible follow-up in the second and final third. Not a terrible release for Warped though given where they've been the past couple years. The cigar itself was beautiful, but it just had that average to below average quality for cigars that come out of El Titan. The price was high too for the product delivered as well.
