Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection sets out to embody the most premium smoking experience from Aganorsa Leaf, helping to call attention to the company's recently overhauled persona. This is accomplished by handing the keys of the company's immense inventories of tobacco to Max Fernández, son of company owner Eduardo Fernández. For this special blend, Max has selected a choice Rosado Claro Corojo '99 wrapper over 100% AGANORSA-grown binder/fillers, including a half-leaf of the rare medio tiempo tobacco priming in the cigar's filler. The resulting blend is quickly identified as an AGANORSA puro cigar, having the signature characteristics that fans have become accustomed to over the past few years. Delicate spice, butter, sweet cream, a touch of salt, sourdough, and loads of graham crackers can be found nearly from start to finish. And then there's the construction, which is spot on (apart from a slightly firm draw). The cigar shows the body and complexity you'd expect from a traditional Cuban Habano, although being less musty and more sweet and creamy. It's difficult to nitpick at this robusto, with my only small criticisms being the draw (very minor) and the lack of surprise. While I've come to enjoy AGANORSA puros as much as nearly any other the world has to offer, I'd like a little more oomph, pizzazz, or whatever "it factor" descriptor it takes to elevate this experience to another level. That being said, it can be easy to forget—considering this is essentially the company's current tour de force—that the Signature Selection Robusto is a sub-$10 smoke... In that respect, this is a truly fantastic offering that no enthusiast should hesitate to acquire.

If you judged the cigar based on the first inch, this is going to be a massive disappointment unless you are looking to have your throat lit on fire via pepper on the retrohale. That being said, the AGANORSA Leaf Signature Series Corona Gorda developed into something quite smooth and complex. There were times in which it seemed like the pepper wanted to come back, but each time there were hints of a return, there was no triumphant comeback. It allowed for the cigar to continue down its path of complexity. Unfortunately, consistent burn issues—particularly in the latter half—impacted the score.

Both a bit brash and a bit flat. Like a power-lifter with a backache. That's mainly overcome prior to the end of the opening act. The brashness, I mean. Overall, the Aganorsa Leaf Signature Series Robusto was an average experience as the cigar dropped in enjoyment as it went along.
