Holt's Staff Reviews · Sep 16, 2021
I’m reviewing a standout cigar from the AJ Fernandez portfolio – New World Cameroon – in a 5.5 by 54 ring gauge format called the Doble Robusto. Abdel Joséf (AJ) Fernandez is a somewhat brooding figure with his large frame and wide-brimmed hat, always concentrating on a handful of tobacco leaves or the cigars he’s smoking. His focus is a reflection of the hard work he’s put in over the past two decades, building his brand from an operation that made house blends for a few big online retailers to a top-rated company celebrated by the critics in Cigar Aficionado.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews

The AJ Fernandez New World Cameroon Selection Doble Robusto is a cigar that was launched back in 2018. The line is made of 6 cigars, and compared to the launch, the “Petit Lancero” vitola is the only one that got discontinued. The line features a Cameroon wrapper that encloses leaves grown in Nicaragua.

Late in 2018, AJ Fernandez Cigars released its fourth blend under its New World line, the New World Cameroon Selection. As the name indicates, it features a Cameroon wrapper and is the first Cameroon wrapper to be released in the AJ Fernandez Cigars portfolio. The first New World was introduced in 2014 in the form […] Key flavors: Natural Tobacco, Caramel, Wood, Red Pepper.

Halfwheel · Apr 5, 2019 · Dec. 8, 2018
While the construction on the New World Cameroon Churchill was consistently excellent, the profile between the three samples I smoked for this review was a different story. Although two of the cigars were very good from beginning to end—albeit a bit linear flavor-wise—the first sample I smoked was noticeably inferior, with a harsh metallic note that overwhelmed the profile for two thirds before finally letting up a bit in the final third. If you get a good sample, the New World Cameroon Churchill is a very good cigar, but when it's not, it is a waste of both time and money.

Overall, the AJ Fernandez New World Cameroon Toro was pretty linear in it's flavor profile until some transitions in the final third. Having reviewed the cigar in the Double Robusto previously, this vitola provided a very similar, average experience. The price point is attractive, so it's an easy try if the blend intrigues you.
