Kaplowitz · Jun 21, 2022
Spiced cream | Leather | White pepper A supremely consistent blend. This is not to be taken as linear or uneventful, as there are plenty of nuances and depth, many subtle complexities. Simply it remains much the same from beginning to end. Quite creamy and within that aspect, softly spicy. Cinnamon and clove whisper but not weakly-so. Heavy butternut vibes. Everything seems wrapped in a thick well-worked and smooth leather. White pepper, ground fine, keeps the profile from being wishy-washy. A p

Agile Cigar Reviews replace what we termed “Assessment Updates”. The concept is the same, but the name is different. Agile Cigar Reviews use a lightweight, shorter format. These will never take the place of our comprehensive reviews. They are only used on blends we have previously assessed. This might be a blend we are re-scoring […]

I am smoking the New World Connecticut from AJ Fernandez in a 6 by 52 Toro. New World is a core series in AJ’s portfolio, and it’s available in four unique blends: the original New World, Cameroon, Puro Especial, and the Connecticut I’m reviewing today. Connecticut-wrapped cigars command a substantial audience, even from cigarmakers who are known for producing cigars that are on the stronger side. New World Connecticut is finished in a butterscotch-blond Connecticut Shade wrapper grown in the Connecticut River Valley.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews

Vitola: Robusto 5” x 50 ring gauge Price $6.49 Purchased from Burns Tobacconist Background I don’t recall the New World by A.J. Fernandez being one of the most highly anticipated cigars of 2014. Not to take anything away from Fernandez…over the years he has shown a great touch in blending the Man O War series, […]

I liked the aggressive and full profile of New World, particularly at the price point. It was a good cigar, one that you could feel good about buying a box of—but not one that I would have put forward as a “let’s make a Connecticut version.” I’m happy that the company decided to stick true to the fuller base of New World, and not simply use the name—but I’m not quite sure what to make of the cigar. At times, it comes together and makes something truly enjoyable, but for most of the cigar, it felt like there was a war being fought with my palate as the battlefield—and I don’t think there were any real winners or losers by the end.
