Alec Bradley Medalist Churchill
Cigar Aficionado · Aug 1, 2023
A handsome Churchill with even combustion and a slightly firm draw. Its sweet, nutty undertone of almond paste and cashew stays constant with accents of milk chocolate, wood and an herbal finish.

Blind Man's Puff · May 8, 2020 · April 2018
The Alec Bradley Medalist was quietly released in 2018 before the IPCPR trade show. It was meant to remind people of the company’s past, meaning milder cigars. Alec Bradley has more recently been know for cigars like its Prensado, which earned it Cigar Aficionado’s #1 Cigar of the Year, and is a stronger cigar. It is also offered at a very reasonable price point ranging from $6-$7. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The blend starts with a Honduran shade grown wrapper, Honduran binder, and Honduran and Nicaragua fillers. Alec Bradley Medalist is rolled at Tabacos de Oriente in Honduras. It comes in four vitolas: Robusto (5 x 52) $6, Toro (6 x 54) $6.50, Churchill (7 x 50) $7, and Gordo (6 x 60) $7. All are sold in 10 count boxes.

While I still can’t bring myself to put the Alec Bradley Medalist Toro in the category of a milder cigar, I can say I'm still impressed by what it has to offer. While the first and second thirds are a bit singular in their offerings the final third shows some complexity and development that puts the profile into a very enjoyable—if a bit dry—spot. It’s also an impressive profile for a lower-cost premium cigar, with several puffs delivering more than a $6-7 price tag might suggest. It may not be mild, but it is still enjoyable and affordable, which are two characteristics I'm happy to put on any cigar.

Developing Palates · Feb 20, 2019 · April 2018
In terms of what I think about the Alec Bradley Medalist Toro, the profile was a good representation on a less heavy smoking experience with notes of pencil lead minerality, cedar, bread/toast and slightly over charred coffee. This is worth a shot, especially at the low price of $6.50 MSRP per cigar.
