When I'm in the mood to light up a cigar that puts me in a state of total relaxation, I reach for an Arturo Fuente Don Carlos. When I simply think about cigars, or the cigar industry in general, it doesn't take long before the Fuente name pops into my brain. You see, the Fuentes are at the pinnacle of the cigar game and what they have accomplished is unmatched and impossible to duplicate. They have received multiple '#1 Cigar of the Year' awards, plus hundreds, if not thousands of 90+ ratings and they also hold a well-deserved spot in Cigar Aficionado’s illustrious Hall of Fame.

I smoked the cigar down to a third of an inch. That’s a rare occurrence for me, probably the first time this has happened all year. It’s a testament to just how good this Don Carlos was. I’m not sure whether Fuente has any plans to actually sell this cigar in any capacity this year, but if you do happen to pick one of the new black-banded Don Carlos Lanceros, I’d highly recommend it. This was as good of a Don Carlos Lancero as I’ve smoked—and there’s been a few of them over the years.

The Arturo Fuente Don Carlos 90 Años is a good cigar. It has a flavor profile that is complex throughout, and the cigar shows some nice transitioning from beginning to end. The body and strength increased in the second and final third, and it has a nice burn and draw as well. The size on the blend is great, and I am curious to see what other vitolas there are with the blend. This is a good cigar, and I look forward to discovering the blend and brand.
