An elegant cigar that’s sweet without being cloying and rich without being too heavy. Like fine confections, the smoke layers the palate in notes of caramel and vanilla. A marzipan intonation brings some nutty structure before the praline finish.

Join me, friends, for another edition of Grant’s Rant. In this installment, I am reviewing Arturo Fuente Especiales in an uber-chunky 5.5 x 56 Conquistadores format. Like a child on Christmas morning, I am always excited to partake in a cigar I haven’t previously enjoyed in my decades-long tenure here at Holt’s. Hastily, I retrieved my Conquistadores from the “Miracle Mile” (aka aisle A) of our palatial climate-controlled humidor. Inhabitants of this prestigious location include the finest cigars from Arturo Fuente, Ashton, My Father, and Padron among others.

Coffee beans | Hardwood | Dark chocolate Here, the whole is indeed greater than the sum of its parts. The coffee beans are Italian+ roasted, you know, burnt. A non-descript hardwood is a tick scorched. Dark chocolate is waxy until the second-third, then it becomes a rather nice semi-sweet chocolate note with vanilla bean addition. All is quite smoky, almost to a liquid smoke faux extent. But it together works into a serviceable cigar, most likely through no small part blending alchemy. A little
