CAO Amazon Basin (2024)

Halfwheel · May 21, 2024 · January 2024

Lively and complex, the CAO Amazon Basin features a profile that is full of distinct transitions and rich flavors, including creamy oak and powdery cocoa nibs in the first half that shift to a combination of sweet readiness and dried tea leaves in the second half. Then there is the retrohale, which features a combination of jammy raisins and intense black pepper, both of which are strong enough to hold their own against each other but not strong enough to overwhelm the rest of the profile. I have long felt that the Amazon Basin is one of General Cigar Co.’s best blends—at least since the line’s second release—and that trend continues in a big way with this newest incarnation.

CAO Fuma em Corda -

Kaplowitz · Aug 2, 2017

Cinnamon Yeasty 'baccy Raisin Prune Leather Red fruit syrups Orange peel Booze/hooch White/black pepper (retro-hale, mainly) Molasses Floral Nutmeg Hickory Buttah Milk chocolate Salt Barnyard Triggers nicely all the basic flavors. Well balanced. Smooth of texture with some moisture which avoids swampiness. Rich in a low-caloric desert manner. Quite complex, yet even-keel'd. Finish is rather short, but of a verily clean sort. Some delineation is lost in the 3/3. Becomes nigh, only nigh, laborious

CAO Fuma Em Corda Robusto

Cigar Coop · Sep 11, 2017

In 2014, CAO Cigars launched a limited edition cigar known as the CAO Amazon Basin. The CAO Amazon Basin was a cigar that incorporated a rare tobacco from Brazil known as Braganca, a tobacco grown in a remote area of the Amazon Rainforest. It was right around this time that CAO was really starting to turn a corner as a brand […] Key flavors: Dusty Earth, Fruit, Cedar, Classic Wood, Red Pepper.

CAO Fuma Em Corda

Cigar Dojo · Jul 21, 2017

CAO may not have the same boutique feel that the brand had once cultivated, but the Amazon series certainly does a convincing job to assure the enthusiast that the brand hasn't stopped innovating. The cigars seem to have just the right ingredients of an exotic background, limited/collectible availability (without being too limited), and attractive price point to have "Joe 6-pack" and aspiring collectors alike raving. With the blend change from Amazon Basin to Fuma Em Corda, the cigars show a new profile that may have lost a bit of the desired natural sweetness, but there is still lots of gritty flavors to be found. At its best, Fuma Em Corda showed earthy notes of chili-infused dark chocolate bars, espresso, and salted and burnt caramel. But the flavors did lack an overall deeper complexity/evolution in the grand scheme, showcasing a charcoal/earth/mineral profile for a majority of the experience. Overall, there's little to complain about with the fun concept and fair price point of Fuma Em Corda.

CAO Amazon BasinExtra Anejo

CigarCzars · May 6, 2023

CAO Amazon Basin Extra Anejo cigars are made in Nicaragua with an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper, Nicaragua binder, and fillers that include some Dominican and Colombian leaves that were blended with a Braganca varietal tobacco that is organically grown in the Amazonian rainforest. The cigars were made in 2021, and then aged for two years before being released in January 2023. CAO Amazon Basin Extra Anejo cigars are available in one Toro size measuring 6 x 52, and are priced at $14.99 per stick. For more information about these cigars, please see thepress release. The sample Amazon Basin Extra Anejo cigar began with hints of spice, was smooth and mellow, and had a medium body. After a few puffs, modest cedar and cream flavors emerged. The taste was very enjoyable and not as rustic as the cigar's appearance. After about 10 minutes, the cedar flavor became more noticeable and the texture of the smoke was still very mellow. The extra aging really smoothed out any rough or edgy flavor nuances in the tobaccos, resulting in a most pleasant smoking experience that can be enjoyed by all levels of cigar smokers. About 40 minutes into the smoking session, the cedar-wood flavor moderated just a bit, and the cigar remained smooth and creamy down to the last puff. The CAO Amazon Basin Extra Anejo Toro cigar took me 90 minutes to smoke down to two inches remaining. During that time, the cigar had an excellent draw, even burn, and held a medium-to-long ash. No relights were needed, but a minor touch-up was needed at about the halfway point. I really appreciate and enjoy smoking cigars that have been aged for a while. In most cases, the texture component of an aged cigar's flavor is much smoother and mellow, while the various taste aspects are tamer and not as much “in-your-face”. This is a good thing that takes time and added expense to achieve. In this case, it was definitely worth it. I rate the CAO Amazon Basin Extra Anejo cigar with a superior 4.25 points on a 5-point scale. Only 5,800 boxes were produced for the U.S. market, so try one while you still can.

CAO AMAZON BASIN EXTRA AÑEJO

Comedy Cigars Music · Jun 25, 2023

Earth, a dark woodiness, and a bit of spice (almost an afterthought) get things started with Extra Añejo. There’s some creaminess tucked away in there as well. We’ll see if that continues to develop. Coffee, earth, spice (less of an afterthought), and creaminess linger on the finish. Creaminess is a touch

CAO Amazon Anaconda

Developing Palates · Jan 24, 2018 · August 2017

Now smoking the entire trilogy, I will stay say the original Amazon Basin is my favorite, but this CAO Amazon Anaconda isn't far behind. If you liked either of the two predecessors, then you'll also like this one, so it would be a no brainer to pick some up.
