CAO Cigars Consigliere
Originally developed as the iconic Sopranos blend, CAO Consigliere is rolled with attitude at the CAO Fabrica in Estelí, Nicaragua. Wrapped in an oily Brazilian Mata Fina leaf over a Honduran binder and fillers from Nicaragua, Colombia, and the Dominican Republic, it provides a bold medium-to-full smoke brimming with baking spices, leather, espresso, and pepper.

CAO Consigliere is a sequel or remake or sorts of the CAO Sopranos Cigar– the five-country blend is the same as before. Consigliere is handmade in Nicaragua, with a Brazilian Mata Fina wrapper, bound with a Honduran leaf and features a blend of Nicaraguan, Dominican and Colombian leaves. This is a bold cigar with flavors of espresso, wood and spice. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Consigliere will be pulled back in as a full-time member of the CAO family starting in October, with suggested retail prices that are less than the original. Three new sizes were created for the launch. They are: Associate — 5 x 52; SRP per cigar is $6.99 Soldier — 6 x 54; SRP per cigar is $7.99 Boss — 7 x 56 Torpedo; SRP per cigar is $8.99

The CAO Consigliere is a cigar that made its debut at the 2016 IPCPR Trade Show. The Consigliere is a re-incarnation of the original CAO Sopranos Edition blend. It was back in 2005 (prior to the acquisition by General Cigar) when CAO Cigars entered into a licensing agreement with HBO to launch the CAO Sopranos […] Key flavors: Cocoa, Earth, Mineral, Citrus, Cedar.

General Cigars’ most recent addition to the portfolio of their CAO brand is the Consigliere. Offered in three vitolas, the cigars are composed with the same tobacco elements used in the construction of the initial release of the CAO Sopranos cigars, which were introduced in 2005 to commemorate the HBO television series, The Sopranos. The CAO Consigliere Associate robusto is a solid, value-priced cigar which provides a ninety-minute smoking experience—just long enough to accompany a James Cagney gangster film. Flavors and aromas of coffee, cinnamon, earth, hardwoods, leather, and natural tobacco will entertain the palates of both the beginning and the more experienced cigar smoking enthusiast.

The "new" CAO Consigliere cigar released by General Cigar during October 2016 is really a reintroduction of an original CAO cigar that was ranked Number 25 (during 2006) for the year 2005, byCigar Aficionado. Back then, that original CAO cigar was named after a very popular HBO series, and CAO was an independent boutique cigar company. Although General Cigar now owns the CAO brand, it does not have the right to use the name of the HBO series. CAO Consigliere cigars are made with Brazilian Mata Fina wrappers, Honduran binders, and a blend of filler tobaccos from Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, and Columbia. The cigars are available in three sizes, including a Robusto (5 x52) called the Associate, which is priced at $6.99 per stick. For more information about these cigars, please refer to thepress release. The CAO Consigliere Robusto began with a bold earthy and peppery flavor that smoothed out and transformed into a predominate leathery flavor with subtle hints of spice within the first five minutes. The smoke was medium-to-full bodied and the taste was very enjoyable. The cigar had a good draw, held a long ash, and had an even burn. It took me 45 minutes to smoke the cigar down to two inches remaining, without any construction issues. I rate the Consigliere Robusto with a very solid 4 points on a 5-point scale, and consider it to be a very good value at less than $7 per cigar.

For those that were fans of the original Sopranos and for those that like a nice Brazilian Mata Fina wrapped cigar, it's easily approachable and some may find this an ideal daily smoke.
