CAO FASA Noche is a new project under the CAO line. It was released with an additional cigar in the line: the CAO FASA Sol. These two cigars are constructed with similar binder and filler, but differ in their wrapper. The idea behind this decision was to highlight how wrapper choice can influence the flavor profile of a cigar. Noche has a good, solid construction and slow burn. These factors give the smoker time to experience the multiple flavors of red pepper, must, and salty umami. The retrohale initially gives a fairly hot horseradish feeling in the sinuses, but settles down as the cigar progresses (landing in mild red pepper territory). At a good price point, along with the intrigue and curiosity it brings, the Noche offers a fun, experimental opportunity for the consumer.

After starting out with a blast of sweetness, the profile of the CAO FASA Noche Toro mellows out considerably, with main flavors of creamy oak, cocoa nibs and dry hay taking over the top spots throughout the 90-minute smoking time. While there were some minor changes in the main flavors between thirds, the profile was just not overly dynamic at any point, even with the distinct raisin sweetness on the retrohale taken into account. Construction was decent and the strength tops out a medium-plus, but in the end, the FASA Noche Toro seems to be another decent blend in a sea of cigars, with not much to set it apart from the multitude of brands that already exist in CAO’s portfolio other than the extremely wallet-friendly price tag.

The CAO FASA Noche Toro had a nice start as the chalky cocoa provided a pleasant accent. As it departed in the second third, the profile took a step down and remained that way for the remainder of the cigar. This cigar had a profile that showed through some of the homogenized flavors that were present and typical of STG releases that I experience. Around the middle of the cigar, the profile succumbed to the homogenized components, but I think there is still a good flavor profile hidden in there.
