The Gurkha Year of Snake by Oscar Valladares is a thoroughly enjoyable cigar, one with a profile that leans into its Honduran roots, offering a profile rooted in earthiness, woods and pepper, with an interesting thread of creaminess that flows through those core flavors. The first two thirds of the cigar are very enjoyable, if maybe a bit pedestrian in how the profile is established and evolves. It checks the boxes, plays the familiar notes, and does so pretty proficiently. if anything, the final third comes up a bit short, as the flavors separate into individual components instead of a cohesive group. While I didn't ever make note of the cigar being overly harmonious or complex, it is interesting to see what happens when the complexity and harmony it did have erode, as the cigar goes from being perfectly enjoyable to harder to embrace. If that final third tightened up, this could be a really solid cigar; for now, it's a good two thirds that I'd gladly smoke again.
