HVC Hot Cake Laguito #5

Stogie Press · Jan 22, 2021

Back in July of 2020, you know, the year we all wish to forget, HVC Cigars released their newest craft called the Hot Cake. The company notes that it is a follow-up to the Pan Caliente limited edition that was released back in 2016. If you are interested in the relation, the phrase “pan caliente” Read more about Cigar Review: HVC Hot Cake Laguito #5 – Rated 95[…]

HVC Cigars Hot Cake Laguito No. 4 in Review "Well Guided Experience"

Kaplowitz · Sep 11, 2020

Chocolate | Spices | Cuban coffee Rothschild is my favorite under-used vitola. This one features a quite round & nicely weighted profile. Easy & warm. Sweet & smooth. Chocolatey backed by red spices. Savory leather. A dark molasses then an added buckwheat honey. A Cuban coffee lilt. Calm & purposeful. Braced by a supple well-aged cedar note. A bit of black peppercorn on the tongue-tip. Excellent delineation up-top. In the underneath, the structure gives a bit more, allowing for some mingling of

HVC Hot Cake Golden Line Laguito No.5

Blind Man's Puff · Sep 20, 2023 · July 2023

HVC came out with a new regular production line in 2020 called Hot Cake. The new line was said to serve as a sequel to the company’s Pan Caliente, which was a limited edition release from 2016. The original Hot Cake blend used a Mexican San Andrés wrapper, double binder of corojo 99 from Jalapa and corojo 98 from Estelí, and corojo 2006 maduro filler. Now, this year, in 2023, the company has released a line extension called the Hot Cake blend named Golden Line. This new blend swaps the original Mexican San Andrés wrapper with an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper. The binder and filler are also updated using a Nicaraguan binder and fillers from Estelí and Jalapa. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. HVC Hot Cake Golden Line is a regular production line and is made at HVC ‘s Fábrica de Tabacos HVC S.A. de Reinier Lorenzo factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. It comes in four sizes: Corona Gorda 5 5/8 x 4 $8.30, Laguito No.4 4 1/2 x 52 $9.00, Laguito No.5 6 x 54 $10.00, and Gran Cañon 6 x 60 $11.40. All come in boxes of 25.

HVC Hot Cakes Golden Line Connecticut Gran Cañon

Cigar Aficionado · Dec 1, 2023

A few kinky veins riddle the wrapper of this thick cigar. The open draw produces lots of creamy smoke, showing a core of cedar supported by baking spices like nutmeg, cinnamon and vanilla before a nutty finish.

HVC Hot Cake Laguito No. 4

Cigar Coop · Feb 26, 2021

During the Summer of ’20, HVC Cigars unveiled a new regular production offering known as Hot Cake. Whether the name is a tribute to the popular breakfast food, or simply because the cigar will “sell like hot cakes” is a bit unclear. What we do know is that this is not the first time HVC […] Key flavors: Cocoa, Earth, Fruit Sweetness, Red Pepper.

Cigar Dojo · Jan 22, 2021

This was a very enjoyable cigar to smoke. The flavors work together very well, and the transitions (aside from the final one) are fluid. As mentioned earlier, I have smoked quite a few of these cigars, and I prefer the corona gorda. Each size makes for an enjoyable smoking experience, however, and I would not hesitate to smoke any one of them. Having been able to smoke most of the cigars released by HVC, I was expecting greatness when I picked them up. These cigars deliver well above their price point, and will surely help to cement the legacy that Reinier Lorenzo is making for himself and his brand within the industry.

HVC Hot Cake Golden Line Laguito No. 5

Halfwheel · Sep 17, 2023 · July 2023

“This is not your father’s Connecticut” has become a trite, almost meanless phrase these days, but the Hot Cake Golden Line is definitely a departure from what I would consider a “standard” Connecticut blend, with distinct flavors of creamy hay, toasted bread and cashews as well as plenty of white pepper, spice and floral sweetness. In addition, the new blend delivers a cleaner, creamier and—dare I say—more dynamic profile than the original Hot Cake blend, albeit with less body and strength. Having said that, each cigar featured some burn issues that needed to be corrected at various points, and the wrapper is fragile enough to cause problems if it is not looked after. In the end, the Hot Cake Golden Line is a very flavorful cigar with a solid medium strength that can be enjoyed at any time of the day, attributes that I am always looking for in a blend.

HVC Hot Cake Golden Line Corona Gorda

Developing Palates · Oct 4, 2023 · July 2023

Hot Cake Golden Line is a hit on many levels. I would not say it is overly complex, but a great value Connecticut that can be enjoyed by any level of smoker. Constructed perfectly, the HVC Hot Cake Golden Line Corona Gorda smoked cool with core flavors from start to finish. Yes, I will come back to this cigar. Yes, I can see this cigar becoming a regular in my rotation. Nice morning beach cigar.
