La Flor Dominicana Petite La Volcada
Halfwheel · May 23, 2022 · February 2020
Because of its thin vitola and small size, the La Flor Dominicana Petite La Volcada has a narrow tightrope to walk to stay balanced and enjoyable without becoming sharp or harsh, and it does so masterfully. Just like it did a little over two years ago, the flavor shows depth, balance and complexity, overdelivering on any expectations for a cigar of this size. I really can't say enough about how good the La Flor Dominicana Petite La Volcada is, only that it shouldn't be overlooked in the humidor.

At last year’s IPCPR trade show, La Flor Dominicana released La Flor Dominicana La Volcada. The name pays tribue to Uruguay’s tango. Litto Gomez was born in Spain but actually grew up in Uruguay where the tango was said to originate, although some say it was Argentina. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. La Volcada comes form the Spanish verb volcar which translates roughly to “tip over.” This move is where the leader causes the follower to lean forward, swinging the leg. La Volcada comes in one size, a 7 inch by 48 ring gauge Churchill. The blend uses a dark, San Andrés wrapper with a coiled cap. The filler was all grown on Gomez’s farm in La Canela, Dominican Republic, while the binder is Ecuadoran Corojo. Each cigar has a suggested retail price of $12. La Volvada is a regular production cigar. It comes in boxes of 20 and has a black, red and white band that features a silhouette of a tango dancer performing the volcada move. The silhouette looks a lot like the bullfighter found on their release from the years before Andalusian Bull.

Did you know that Square Dancing has its roots in antisemitism? It was manufactured as a wholesome alternative to the Jews and their Jazz -- which was, of course, itself created to destroy the world. True story. But this, this is the Tango. Or at least the La Volcada step therein. Okay, okay. It's about a cigar... KVELL Superb draw. Bupkis hard/soft spots, well-rolled. Burns even, just not on a razor-line Construction holds in excellent fashion. Ash makes a decent inch of growth. Pacing is slow

I’m smoking a small-batch La Flor Dominicana cigar called La Volcada in a 7-by-48 Churchill. La Flor Dominicana brand founder Litto Gomez is well known for his inventive approach to cigar-making with several unique cigars to his credit, including the Double Ligero Chisel and his award-winning Andalusian Bull. La Volcada is named after a step in the tango, which came from Uruguay where Gomez was raised. A silhouette of a couple tangoing is pictured on the cigar bands and boxes.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews

Near-black with a knotted pigtail cap, this Churchill has an open, even draw. Its spicy, leathery qualities are balanced by notes of earth, fruit and bold licorice.

The La Flor Dominicana La Volcada began with a lot of promise given the twists and turns of the initial flavors. I wasn't sure which direction the spice would lead but the blender did a great job of bringing it out strong and then dialing it back.

Cigar Journal · Dec 17, 2018 · Top 25 Cigars of 2018: The Complete List (Rank #24)
A pretty cigar with a pigtail, creamy smoke, and exciting in the course of the smoke. Alongside the scent of flowers and citrus notes, it has the sweetness of molasses, pepperiness, bitter notes of Angostura, earthy and roasted aromas, as well as wood aromas with cacao.
