Housed in commemorative golden tubes, LFD Oro is an ultra-premium powerhouse rolled at Tabacalera La Flor in the Dominican Republic. Wrapped in an oily Nicaraguan Habano Sun Grown wrapper over a Connecticut Broadleaf binder and Dominican fillers from La Canela, it unleashes a luxurious full-bodied smoke loaded with dark earth, roasted almonds, baking spices, leather, and black pepper.

Before he made cigars, Litto Gomez was a jeweler, so when he created a new cigar line in 2012 he decided to pay homage to his former career. His Oro line—oro is Spanish for gold—is made with his home-grown Dominican tobacco from La Canela under a dark, high-priming wrapper from Nicaragua. The La Flor Dominicana Oro Chisel brings a new taste to Gomez's trademark figurado size. It's considerably strong (would you expect anything less from a Chisel?) with spicy leather and tingly ginger on the palate, plus hearty hickory wood. The handsome cigars come packed in distinctive golden tubes.

The La Flor Dominicana TAA 2018 Golden "Oro” Anniversary has definitely improved with two years of rest, and feels like it just might be waking up and coming into its own. The steady progression of flavors through the first two thirds is nothing short of stellar, an impressive mix that moves with finesse and purpose. While the final third seems like it could use a bit more time to smooth itself out, this cigar shows it is very much headed in the right direction.
