La Gloria Cubana Spanish Press Robusto
Blind Man's Puff · Jul 31, 2020 · May 2020
General Cigar added a new La Gloria Cubana line last May: Spanish Press. The new cigar comes in three sizes and is rolled at the separate areafor the La Gloria brand, El Credito, of the Genera Cigar Dominicana factory. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. The Spanish Press names refers to the way the cigars are pressed which involves putting the cigars into trays with dividers immediately after rolling. Then they are put in boxes designed to allow the cigars to keep the shape. This method allows air channels within the cigar that make for better draw. The blend uses a Nicaraguan Jalapa wrapper, Mexican San Andrés binder, and Brazilian mata fina, Dominican olor and piloto cubano, and Nicaraguan Jalapa filler. The three sizes are: Robusto (5 1/2 x 50) – $6.29, Toro (6 1/2 x 52) – $7.29, and Gigante (6 x 60) – $7.99. Spanish Press also features a new logo for the brand.

La Gloria Cubana has always been one of the more interesting blends in the General Cigar portfolio. It’s a brand that essentially has its own boutique factory within the massive General Cigar Dominicana facility. If you look at the past decade, it certainly has been one of the more innovative brands under General. The first […] Key flavors: Natural Tobacco, Red Licorice, Pepper, Baker’s Spice, Earth.

My wife and I both have head colds which means no sense of taste. I thought this a good opportunity to remind you of great every day, reasonably priced cigars. I reviewed this cigar in June 2019. A…

La Gloria Cubana Spanish Press cigars are made with a blend of Dominican, Nicaraguan and Brazilian filler tobaccos, Mexican San Andreas binders, and Nicaraguan wrappers from Jalapa. After being rolled, the cigars are first placed into wooded trays with dividers and pressed into a square shape, then they are put into specially sized boxes to maintain their shape. These cigars are available in three vitolas, including a Robusto (5½ x 50) that was sampled for this review, priced at $6.29 per stick. For more information about these cigars, please refer to thepress release. The La Gloria Cubana Spanish Press Robusto began with a very obvious sweet peppery flavor. After a few puffs, the pepper started to back off while the sweetness gradually diminished. A leather flavor then became predominate, along with some lingering sweetness and hints of spice. The smoke was medium-to-full bodied and the cigar had an excellent draw. I really enjoyed the first 15 to 20 minutes of this cigar, but then the leathery taste became stronger with less sweetness and spice thereafter. Although the cigar ramped up a bit during the second half, it still remained in the medium-to-full range. The LGC Spanish Press Robusto held a medium-to-long ash, but didn't always burn evenly. A couple of touch-ups and relights were required during the 55 minutes that it took me to smoke down to two inches remaining. The sample La Gloria Cubana Spanish Press Robusto was a decent smoke, and a good value in today's market at only $6.29 per cigar. Although very enjoyable at first, overall I rate it with a respectable 3.5 points on a 5-point scale. I enjoy box pressed cigars for the feel, performance, and appearance, and this LGC Spanish Press really provides an excellent draw which delivers a generous volume of smoke. Developing Palates · Apr 8, 2020 · May 2019
The La Gloria Cubana Spanish Press Robusto started out interesting with flavors of cedar, pepper, spices, leather, chocolate, citrus and earth. Unfortunately, between the burn issues and the average performance through the middle and last thirds, the overall experience ended up as quite forgettable.
