Liga Privada Único Serie Year of the Snake

There are a number of reviews on this site where we talk about how a couple of puffs, or if we're lucky, an entire third, carried a cigar. That was the case with the Liga Privada Único Serie Year of the Snake, as the first third of each cigar easily ranks among the best experiences I have had thus far this year. The beginning is upfront without being overbearing, and the flavor quickly develops and evolves into a beautifully complex harmony of flavors that has notes of one of my favorite varietals yet with more refinement. The issue for me is that the rest of the cigar fails to build upon the first third, but rather seems to try and distill and simplify the profile, which is just the opposite of what the first third deserves. I'm hesitant to call the first third a symphony of flavors, but it would be like starting a performance with a symphony and then having 80 percent of the musicians leave the stage after the first movement. The remaining musicians are still quite good, but they can only offer so much, which is what the second and final thirds offer in this cigar. I'd certainly recommend this one, with the advice to really savor the first third, because that's where the best that this cigar has to offer lies.

Drew Estate Liga Privada Único Serie Pancetta 2023

Last year, Drew Estate launched the 2023 edition of the Liga Privada Unico Serie Pancetta, a limited release available only at Wooden Indian Tobacco Shop in Havertown, PA, and Barrister Cigars in Union, NJ. This intriguing blend marries the distinct characteristics of Liga Privada T52 and the Liga Privada Unico Feral Flying Pig. Crafted with a Connecticut Stalk Cut and Cured Habano wrapper, a Brazilian Mata Fina binder, and fillers from Nicaragua and Honduras. The Unico Serie Pancetta is rolled into a 4 ¾” x 50 belicoso format, complete with a 2023 release footband. and priced at $299 per 24-count box. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience.

I’m smoking a Liga Privada Unico from Drew Estate in a coveted 6.25-by-46 Lonsdale, called the Velvet Rat. Liga Privada cigars are handmade at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate, the company’s sprawling factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. Relatively speaking for a Connecticut broadleaf, the Drew Estate Liga Privada Único Serie Year of the Ox 2021 was on the lighter side. It didn't quite have the highly earthy, viscous and chocolate overlays. Instead, it smoked lighter, especially in terms of earthiness and strength. To me, there's nothing wrong with that and it's a good showing, especially for the Chinese market. A cigar well made to celebrate the Year of the Ox.

A nice start to this Robusto Gordo, with white pepper and mint, plus barbecue aromas, which are then increasingly dominated by leather, roasted, and earthy notes. In addition, it’s finely complemented by cocoa and nutty tones.
