Drew Estate came out with the Liga Privada Unico Year of the Rat back in 2016 as a cigar lounge exclusive. Earlier this year, the company announced that they would be expanding that cigar to Drew Diplomat Events to coincide with the Chinese New Year and it was shown off at the TPE trade show 2020. This cigar was reviewed blind (no bands) by a panel of at least 4 reviewers. They did not know what they were smoking beforehand. The scores are an average of all the reviewers' scores with outliers removed. All of our cigars reviewed are shipped to the panelists with Boveda packs to ensure optimal smoking experience. Liga Privada Unico Year of the Rat come in one vitola, a 5 ½” x 46 corona gorda featuring a fan tail. The blend features a Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper, Brazilian binder, and Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers. Each cigar is wrapped in gold foil and those come in a wooden box with embossed blue Liga Privada Unico lining. Year of the Rat is only available for purchase at Drew Diplomat Retail events, which are now virtual due to COVID-19. Each event is limited to 4 boxes at most. The cigar comes in boxes of 10 cigars and sell for $159.97.

There is a reason the Liga Privada Único Serie UF-13 Dark was my top rated cigar last year, and I am reminded why every time I smoke one. Dark and earthy with just the right combination of black pepper and sweetness, it is the very definition of a flavor bomb. In addition, it is a cigar that is neither too strong nor too mild to enjoy and features excellent construction overall, although the amount of smoke it puts out can sometimes get annoying. The year of age has increased the sweetness while taming both the strength and meatiness that was in the profile when it was fresh, but my overall enjoyment of the cigar as a whole remains about the same. While I will always love the Dirty Rat and Velvet Rat , the UF-13 Dark remains my favorite Único Serie to date.

Liga Privada Unico Serie UF-13 Dark The Liga Privada Unico Serie UF-13 Dark is the latest in Drew Estate’s Liga Privada Unico Serie line to be released. Do you have a favorite Único? For me, it has always been the L40 . Something about that blend has always managed to get me fired up. The Year of the Rat may be the new King of the Únicos. This cigar delivers on every promise made by previous releases in the Único Series and somehow manages to enter a new realm of smoking pleasure.

A bit rustic in appearance, this long, thin, dark cigar draws evenly, imparting a spicy, leathery smoke with sweet hints of chocolate and caramel. Notes of espresso and earth emerge as well.

Holt's Staff Reviews · Oct 31, 2025
I’m smoking a Liga Privada Unico from Drew Estate in a coveted 6.25-by-46 Lonsdale, called the Velvet Rat. Liga Privada cigars are handmade at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate, the company’s sprawling factory in Estelí, Nicaragua. When Jonathan Drew and his crew at Drew Estate introduced the original Liga Privada No. 9 cigars in 2008, they quickly ran into inventory issues, unable to make enough cigars to satisfy consumer demand.Read full review on Holt's Staff Reviews
Drew Estate Liga Privada Único Serie Year of the Ox 2021
Developing Palates · Jul 19, 2021 · March 2021
Relatively speaking for a Connecticut broadleaf, the Drew Estate Liga Privada Único Serie Year of the Ox 2021 was on the lighter side. It didn't quite have the highly earthy, viscous and chocolate overlays. Instead, it smoked lighter, especially in terms of earthiness and strength. To me, there's nothing wrong with that and it's a good showing, especially for the Chinese market. A cigar well made to celebrate the Year of the Ox.

Cigar Journal · Jan 31, 2024 · Top 25 New Cigars of 2023: The Complete List (Rank #3)
A nice start to this Robusto Gordo, with white pepper and mint, plus barbecue aromas, which are then increasingly dominated by leather, roasted, and earthy notes. In addition, it’s finely complemented by cocoa and nutty tones.
