Oily and slightly veiny with an even draw and burn. Its earthy foundation is elevated by notes of stewed fruit, coffee bean, chocolate and toffee. Touches of citrus and baking spices such as clove and cinnamon add further complexity, leaving a finish that evokes mulled wine.

As the people who often write the articles about the cigars we end up reviewing, it's tough to avoid going into a review without having at least some sort of idea about what might offer. For me, it was a comment made to me at the PCA Convention & Trade Show about La Lealtad offering a bit more flavor than the My Father Blue. Of course, what that actually means is subject to both experience and interpretation. In my experience, the first half of the cigar is where it shines brightest, making several minor tweaks and adjustments to the profile, seemingly in search of its ideal expression, which then arrives right around the midway point, at least for my palate and preferences. If you're looking for a more textured, earthy and peppery profile, it awaits just after the midpoint. From there, the profile carries itself out with the possibility of adding in nicotine strength, which for me, isn't a plus, but I know some people enjoy it. As for which I'd take between La Lealtad and My Father Blue, I'm not sure which one I'd lean to as both have really solid points. I do think La Lealtad does offer a bit more flavor and intensity so when the moment calls for that, you'll know which one to reach for.

The My Father La Lealtad Toro is a decent cigar. The flavor profile becomes a little monotonous with the size offering, but it is not unpleasant. It could come off as a profile that does not speak to a lot of smokers as well, and I feel that is a Dominican/Honduran aspect to the cigar. I believe this blend could reach a higher level with some more richness. That will add to the complexity and depth.
