I wonder if I were in another type of mood, would this stick strike me as boring. I think not. I think there is enough warming and maturing which take place. I think, too, that the inherent deepness here is not indicative of a boredom. Just an easy, peaceful feeling that'll last a good ninety minutes and offer a solid near 20 minutes of buzz-strength from its general low-end of medium bodied classification. It is a slow, warm and comfortable evolution of a cigar. Pairings: Brandy and Cool Jazz.

I’m smoking an Oliva Serie G Maduro in a classic 4.5 by 50 Robusto, and today’s review is more than my humble appraisal of a premium cigar. It’s a cautionary tale. If you plan to smoke cigars away from your home, best bring enough for an unannounced onslaught of cigar pilferers, or you risk learning the hard way, as I did, that life hangs in the balance with the least bit of forewarning.

To say I was disappointed in this cigar would be an understatement. The Oliva Serie G, whether it be in Natural or Maduro – has always been one of my go-to safe selections: consistent, good flavors, rarely a technical problem and something I could always count on for a good smoke. The harshness that this Serie G Maduro Belicoso Round just couldn't shake was puzzling, because the flavors that I usually associate with the Serie G Maduro were all there yet couldn't be enjoyed because of the back of the throat irritation that this cigar produced. Whether I just got a funky one or the change from box press to round makes that big of a difference I may never know; I just hope I don't come across it again when I fire up another Serie G Maduro.
